Chester King (left), Philippines, and Sharon Limansantoso, Indonesia, set the pace in the 2008 ABF Tour Tournament of Champions after the first 8-game block Friday at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

King, Trios and All Events gold medalist at the 2008 Asian Championships, felled 1690 pins over eight games and won six of his eight matches (10 pins bonus per win) to lead the men's field with a score of 1750.

Mere two pins behind to sit in second place was King's compatriot Biboy Rivera (right) with 1748. The 2006 World Championships Masters champion had the highest average of all 15 competitors (Basel Al-Anzi, Kuwait, withdrew) with 212.25 but a 5-3 won-loss record cost him the lead.

Ditto for Somjed Kusonpithak (left), Thailand, who had a 1693 8-game pinfall, but had to settle for third place due to a 5-3 match play record.

Fourth place belonged to Andrew Frawley from Australia with 1737 (6-2), with Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong in fifth with 1718 (5-3).

ABF Tour ranking leader Shaker Al Hassan sits in sixth place with 1706 including a 6-2 record.

Rounding out the top 8 who will advance to the single-elimination finals after another seven match play games on Saturday were Oh Young Ki, Korea (1665/4-3-1) and local favorite, Asian Games champion Ryan Lalisang (right), Indonesia (1663 (4-4).

On the women's side, Sharon Limansantoso beat out her team mate Tannya Roumimper (left) for the top spot by 11 pins, 1762 to 1751. Limansantoso felled 1712 pins, an average of 214.00, and added 60 pins bonus after going 6-2 in match play. Roumimper was just one pin behind with 1711 and fell another 10 pins behind due to her 5-3 match play record.

The duo outaveraged the other 14 players by at least 11 pins. Kim Eun Jung (right), Korea, the 2007 Asian ranking and ABF ranking champion, stated with two defeats but rebounded with six consecutive wins to move into third place with 1680.

Fourth place belonged to former Malaysian national team member Tang Joh Six with 1665 (5-3) with Zhang Yu Hong, China, in fifth place with 1656 (6-2). 2008 ABF Tour point leader, Vanessa Fung, Hong Kong, won her last three matches to leap into sixth place with 1614 (4-4).

Rounding out the top 8 is 2005 World Championships Masters champion Yang Suiling, with 1610 (5-3) and Wu Suqin, both China, with 1579 (4-4).

All 31 players will return on Saturday for the final seven match play games before the cut to the top 8 men and the top 8 women.
