2008 Asian ranking champion Hussain Al-Suwaidi, UAE, defeated Eric Tseng (l-r), Hong Kong, 214-146, in the championship match to win the season-opener of the 2009 Asian Bowling Federation Tour in Kuwait.

Al-Suwaidi, seeded first among the top 16 Asian bowlers of the final standings in the Kuwait Open (below right), improved on a second place finish last year, where he lost to Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia, 217-204.

Lalysang was the No. 2 seed in this year's event but fell to Tseng in the opening round, 226-223.

Al-Suwaidi eliminated compatriot Shaker Al-Hassan in Round 2 with the highest game of the finals, 279-193 and went on to defeat Somjed Kusonpithak, Thailand, in the semifinal, 238-224.

After ousting the defending champion, Tseng, who won the gold medal in Doubles with Cyrus Cheung in the 2008 Asian Championships, ousted Kuwaitis Yaqoub Al-Shati (190-174) and Khaled Al-Dubyyan (211-192) on his way to the title match.

The second stop of the 2009 Asian Bowling Federation Tour will be held in Bahrain on April 12.
