The top 16 men and top 16 women collegiate bowlers will be at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas, May 17-19, competing for individual national titles at the 2009 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships.

Bowlers earned the right to compete in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships national finals by finishing in the top four at one of four sectional-qualifying tournaments, which were held March 13 in Allentown, Pa., Chattanooga, Tenn., Fairview Heights, Ill., and Las Vegas.

The women's field features six 2009 All-Americans, including National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Most Valuable Player Sandra Gongora and collegiate bowling women's rookie of the year Liz Seibel.

Also competing will be McKendree University's Rebekah Diers, who recently won $25,000 for finishing second to Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour superstar Chris Barnes in the 2009 edition of Bowling's Clash of Champions.

"The Clash was the ultimate match-play experience; hopefully, I can key off the excitement from that in order to bowl well at the ISC," Diers said. "College bowling is almost always about team play, so it's a very different atmosphere to come here and bowl singles; it's a nice change of pace, and I like it."

The men's field includes 2009 USBC Team USA member Jacob Peters, who is the lone returning competitor from last year's Intercollegiate Singles Championships. Peters and fellow competitor Joshua McBride were members of Wichita State's 2009 national championship team.

The men's field also includes 2009 All-Americans Derek Hartnell (Newman University) and Sammy Krucek (Calumet College of St. Joseph) as well as 2007 USBC Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Award winner Jonathan Buckert (Wichita State).

Competition begins Monday, May 18, with two six-game qualifying blocks. Block one will begin at 10:30 a.m., and block two will follow at 2:10 p.m. At the end of Monday's 12 games, total pin fall will be used to seed bowlers (1-16) for match-play competition, which will follow a single-elimination, best-of-five format.

Match-play competition gets underway Tuesday, May 19, at 7:40 a.m. with qualifiers nine through 16. Qualifiers five through eight receive first-round byes while the top four qualifiers have byes through the first two rounds. Matches will continue until champions are crowned in each division.

Admission is free to the Intercollegiate Singles Championships, so fans are welcome and encouraged to attend.
