Daniela Alvarado captures women's title at 2009 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships

On Tuesday, Wichita State University junior Daniela Alvarado went 9-0 during match play en route to the women's national title at the 2009 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas.
In order to collect the crown, Alvarado, a multiple medalist for Team Mexico, was forced to battle one of the few players in the field who could match her international experience, Martin Methodist's Hayley Beavis, who has bowled for Team England.
However, only one star would shine during the title match, and, just as it had been all tournament long, it was Alvarado.
The smooth right-hander used a late string of five strikes to take the opening game of the title match, 223-191. Beavis attempted to rebound, but she was never able to get lined up, allowing Alvarado to coast to two more victories - 206-160 and 202-159 - and the title.
Alvarado credits the victory to her ability to read the challenging lane conditions and to the support of her Wichita State teammates.
"The lane conditions fit my natural shot, so I was able to get a perfect read for what was going on from one ball to the next," Alvarado said. "This was a great tournament with a lot of great bowlers, so I'm very excited that I was able to win, especially with my friends and teammates here to cheer me on."
For the tournament, Alvarado established a 21-game average of 215.19 and recorded 19 games of 200 or better. Her low game on Tuesday was the 202 she notched during the deciding game of the title match.
Alvarado punched her ticket to the title match by defeating University of Central Florida senior Brigette Harrelson 3-0 (209-200, 227-174, 214-170) during the seminfinal round. Beavis earned her opportunity to bowl for the crown by dispatching Harrelson's UCF teammate, Kristie Petravich, 3-0 (204-201, 213-182, 219-201).
