2009USBCWCJeanetteMenachoAdams.jpgJeanette Menacho-Adams of Antelope, Calif., placed her name in the record books at the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships by rolling a 299 game, the highest game of the 2009 event. She became only the sixth woman in tournament history to achieve the feat.

The 33-year-old left-hander started off her team event with 214 and then struck on the first 11 shots the following game before a stubborn 8 pin stood on her final ball. She finished with 211 for a 724 series.

Her effort helped Steve Cook's Bowling Supply of Roseville, Calif., into 12th place in Classic Team (combined average above 946) with a 3,036 total. She was joined on the lanes at the National Bowling Stadium by Laura Hardeman (623), USBC Hall of Famer Leanne Barrette-Hulsenberg (611), and USBC Women's Championships titlists Lauren Takahashi (564) and Karen Sookikian (514).

Menacho-Adams credits her patience in helping her put up an honor score. In finishing the first game, she left six consecutive nine counts before starting her string of strikes.

"Some luck and patience were the keys," said Menacho-Adams, who competed in her third Women's Championships. "I had trouble getting the 10 pin out at the end of the first game, but stuck to the same plan. Leanne even commented as I was striking about how my patience had paid off."

Menacho-Adams, who bowls at AMF Alpine Valley Lanes in Sacramento, Calif., did not feel the pressure mount as the number of consecutive strikes grew, due to having a long day leading up to her tournament appearance.

"I was actually so tired when we were bowling because I had to get up at 4:30 in the morning for work," Menacho-Adams said. "So by the time we were bowling, I was just so relaxed and having fun. I truly enjoyed bowling with this team, and it seemed like we really gelled, which is one of the keys to bowling."

She also felt a little more at home at the National Bowling Stadium since she had family watching and cheering her on.

"I owe a lot to my husband, Todd, who is my number one supporter," Menacho-Adams said. "My mother, grandfather, mother-in-law and father-in-law also were there watching, which was just great. Having the full support of your family when you turn around after a shot, good or bad, really helps."

The fellow bowlers on her squad also recognized the feat she had accomplished.

"It was so amazing," Menacho-Adams said. "Saturday night, while we were walking through the casino, I had people I had never met come up and congratulate me. It is so great how this tournament can bring women bowlers from all over the country together."

Menacho-Adams also realizes the significance of her score. Tammy Boomershine of North Ogden, Utah was the last woman to bowl a 299 in the Women's Championships during the 2007 event. There have only been eight 300s shot on the tournament lanes over the 90-year history of the event.

"It's truly an amazing feeling," Menacho-Adams said. "I've shot 300s and 299s during league before, but to shoot like that at the Women's Championships is such a great honor. It's a totally different feeling, and I'm just so honored to be a part of history. I can't wait to try and do it again next year."

Menacho-Adams finished off her Women's Championships appearance with a 630 series in doubles and 492 in singles for a 1,846 all-events total.
