Goossens, Leroy to represent Belgium at the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

    2009BWCBELNCKatrienGoosensOlivierLeroy.jpgKatrien Goossens, Brabo bowling club, and Olivier Leroy, Cordial bowling club, won the finals of the Bowling World Cup Belgium National Championships last Sunday at Bowling Stones Wemmel in Belgium.

    They will represent Belgium at the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup from November 14 through 21 at Melaka International Bowling Center, a new 52-laner inside the Melaka International Trade Center in Melaka, Malaysia.

    The Belgian Bowling World Cup National Championships consisted of two six-game qualifying series at Cordial Bowling Jumet (May 10th) and Bowlmaster Bowling Bruxelles (May 24th) with the top 6 women and the top 8 men advancing to the round robin finals at Bowling Stones Wemmel (June 28th).

    2009BWCBELNCKatrienGoosens.jpgGoossens (left) led from wire to wire averaging over 220 in the women's preliminaries and cruised to the title with 3706 pinfall total including 90 pins bonus. Goossens topped second-place Catherine Durieux (3572) and third-place Christine Van Boom (3541) by 134 and 165 pins.

    2009BWCBELNCOlivierLeroy.jpgFour players battled it out for the men's title, Leroy (right), who posted one of two 300 games to lead the field after the first block (Frederic Salmon had the other); Mats Maggi, who overtook Leroy after 12 games thanks to a 1523 six-game block; as well as Marc Franveus and Jean-Marc Lebon, who were in third and fourth place heading into the finals.

    Leroy started the 7-game round robin portion with a 277-game and maintained a slim 7 pin-lead over Lebon after 19 games winning the title with 4653 pinfall total and a field-best 237.53 average. Lebon was second with 4646, with Franveus another 8 pins behind in third with 4638 and Maggi fourth with 4571.
