Liza Clutario and Liza Del Rosario (pictured left, r-l) from the Philippines were the sole team from Squad 2 who cracked the top 4 in the Doubles preliminaries at the 2009 Women's World Championships in Las Vegas.

The duo, both members of the gold medal trio at the 2003 World Championships in Malaysia, had a slow start into their six-game block on medium oil, the longer of the two patterns used at Cashman Center with 372, but rebounded with five games between 486 and 403 to lead the squad and to move into third place overall with 2549 total and an average of 212.42.

Gang Hye Eun and Hwang Sun Ok (right, r-l) from Korea and Anne Gales and Rikke Rasmussen, Denmark, remained in first and second place with 2613 (217.75) and 2608 (217.33), respectively.

England's Jo Cundy and Hayley White fell one spot to fourth place and is now the team on the bubble with 2548 (212.33), trailing the Filipinas by mere one pin.

Indonesians Putty Armein and Shalima Zalsha slipped out of the top 4 to fifth place with 2533. Korea's multiple Asian Champions Jeon Eun-Hee and Kim Yeau-Jin (left, l-r) were the second-best team in Squad 2 and tied the Indonesian with 2533, but had to settle for sixth place due to the lower last game (423 to 442).

Team USA's Lynda Barnes and Kim Terrell-Kearney (right, r-l) , who led Squad 2 after 5 games, missed the top 4 by 20 pins due to a 374 final game. With the third and final squad to go, the U.S. Open and USBC Queens champions sit in 7th place with 2528.

All teams will bowl one six-game block. The top 4 duos at the end of the day will advance to the finals on Thursday, July 30, 2009 starting right after the Singles finals at 7.00pm.

The No. 1 seed after the preliminaries will bowl the No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3 in the semifinals. The winners will bowl for the title and the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are one-game matches.

The 2009 Women's World Championships consists of six disciplines. Players will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team and Masters competition before the event concludes Sunday. Medals also will be awarded for All Events.

The World Championships is being held on 60 specially constructed lanes inside Cashman Center and includes the world's largest mobile video scoreboard, an investment of nearly $6 million, spectator seating, office, vendor and pro shop space, a scale room, squad room, registration area and shipping department.

USBC plans to live stream portions of the event on bowl.com, and bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the finals and select semifinals.
