Two World Champions will be crowned after the first block if Trios on Thursday

On the third day of competition, the first medals of the 2009 Women's World Championships will be given to the winners in Singles and Doubles competition Thursday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada.
USBC plans to live stream portions of the event on bowl.com, and bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the finals and select semifinals.
Before the top 4 qualifiers from the Singles and Doubles preliminaries take to the lanes at Cashman Center (pictured above), the first of two blocks of the Trios event will be staged in the arena from 9am through 5pm.
The teams will be split into two squads to bowl three games on the WTBA Stockholm pattern, the shorter pattern of the two that are used during this championship. The second block on the medium Athens pattern and the finals will follow on Friday.

Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress president Ponkuchamy Satkuna Nathan (right) has protested against the use of these oil patterns as the WTBA presidium has chosen a "short and medium, and not as in our rules, short and long" pattern.
Since the 75-year old wasn't reelected WTBA president at the 2003 World Championship Congress in his own country, Malaysia, in the eyes of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) members the sport of bowling has become more popular for court proceedings rather than for the years of efforts to become an Olympic Sport.
Nathan has sued the FIQ at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, which has cost tenpin and ninepin bowling's governing body approx. US$26,000 and has an ongoing issue with the Asian Bowling Federation about unpaid 300 game award of RM50,000.

Nathan is currently in Las Vegas to run for Vice President of the World Tenpin Bowling Association at the WTBA Congress right after the Women's World Championships.
Right after the second squad of the Trios event has finished bowling today, Stefanie Nation (left), United States, Sandra Gongora (right), Mexico, Anja Ginge Jensen, Denmark, and Krista Pöllänen, Finland, will determine the Singles champion.
The No. 1 seed after the preliminaries, Nation, will bowl the No. 4 Pöllänen and No. 2 Gongora takes on No. 3 Ginge in the semifinals starting at 5.30pm. The winners will bowl for the title and the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are one-game matches.
Immediately after the conclusion of the Singles finals the top 4 Doubles will determine the second World Champion of this championship.
Two Korean teams, No. 1 seed Hong Su-Yeon and Son Yun-Hee (left, r-l) and No. 2 Gang Hye-Eun and Hwang Sun-Ok (right, l-r) will battle it out with No. 3 Anne Gales and Rikke Rasmussen, Denmark and No. 4 Carol Gianotti and Ann Maree Putney, Australia The semifinals start at 7pm.
The 2009 Women's World Championships consists of six disciplines. Players will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team and Masters competition before the event concludes Sunday. Medals also will be awarded for All Events.
The World Championships is being held on 60 specially constructed lanes inside Cashman Center and includes the world's largest mobile video scoreboard, an investment of nearly $6 million, spectator seating, office, vendor and pro shop space, a scale room, squad room, registration area and shipping department.
