Kok, Pittens win Dutch Bowling World Cup qualifier

    2009BWCNEDQMaartenPittensWendyKok.jpgWendy Kok and Maarten Pittens (pictured) won the Dutch Bowling World Cup Saturday at Chandra Bowling in Schiedam and will represent their country in the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup to be held from Nov. 13-20, 2009 at Melaka International Bowling Center in Melaka, Malaysia.

    Both players led their division after six games qualifying which was conducted two weeks ago. Kok had a 91-pin lead after her 1444 series (240.67) and Pittens had a 90-buffer due to his 1468 series (244.67).

    The top16 women and the top 16 men advanced to the finals where they bowled another six games to cut to top 8 who determined the champions in round robin match play (7 games plus position round).

     Kok widened her lead in the women's Round of 16 with a 1402 series and averaged 236.75 in match play to cruise to victory with 4870 pinfall total. Second-placed Lisanne Breeschoten was 238 pins behind with 4632 and Nicole Sanders finished third with 4545.

    The daughter of Dutch standout Erik Kok, who will make her Bowling World Cup debut in Melaka, beat men's winner Pittens by 96 pins.

    Pittens, who represented the Netherlands in last year's World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico, had a solid 1357 in the men's Round of 16, but second-placed Geert-Jan van Baest narrowed the gap to 42 pins with a 1445 series.

    Pittens rebounded with the highest series in match play averaging over 224 and won five of his eight matches to secure his second consecutive ticket to the World Cup with 4774 pinfall total. Van Baest remained in second place with 4603 and was followed by Ronald Dol in third place with 4511.
