Takahashi rolls 300 game to claim gold in Men's Singles at 5th East Asian Games

    2009EAGLogo_small.jpg 2009EAGToshihikoTakahashi.jpgToshihiko Takahashi (pictured right) from Japan rolled the first 300 game in the bowling competition of the 5th East Asian Games in Hong Kong, China, en route to claim the gold medal in the Men's Singles competition Monday afternoon at Hong Kong Bowling City.

    Heading into the sixth and final game, Takahashi was in 9th place with 1158 trailing leaders Choi Ki-Bong (1237) and Kim Jae-Hoon (1221) by 79 and 63 pins.

    While Takahashi achieved perfection to finish with 1446 pinfall total and an average of 214.00, both Koreans struggled in their final game. Kim managed a 202 game only for 1423 but still was able to overtake his compatriot by 3 pins as Choi felled just 183 pins to finish with 1420.

    Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong, 7th after five games, finished with a huge 269 to help grab the silver medal with 1431 (238.50), Kim had to settle for the bronze medal while Choi slipped all the way out of the medals to fourth place.

Places 6-9 belonged to the rest of the Korean team with scores between 1405 and 1370. Rounding out the top 10 was another player from the host country, Rickle Kam with 1368.

    The men's bowling competition in the 5th East Asian Games drew 43 players from eight countries, China, Chinese Taipei, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau and Mongolia, who will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines: Singles, Doubles, Trios, 5-player Team, All Events and Masters.
