The Korean women dominated the Doubles event of the 5th East Asian Games Tuesday at Hong Kong Bowling City in Hong Kong, China, en route to sweep all medals on the second day of competition.

The Korean line-up for the Doubles event featured Doubles World Champions Hwang Sun-Ok and Gang Hye-Eun, Jeon Eun-Hee and Son Yun-Hee, both members of the gold medal team at the Las Vegas World Championships, and newcomer Shin Bo-Hyun and Gye Min-Young, who won two gold and two silver medals at the 2008 Asian Championships at Hong Kong Bowling City. Hwang and Shin finished 1, 2 in yesterday's Singles event.

The World Champions had to settle for silver and bronze as Shin and Gye (pictured left, r-l) cruised to victory with 2645 six-game total and an average of 220.42. The duo had 3-game series of 1309 and 1336. Gye used the highest game (280) and the highest 3 series (727) for 1389 six-game total and the field-best 231.50 average. Shin added 1256.

Jeon/Son, who led the 16 Doubles after the first block with the highest 3.game series of 1364, finished in second place with 2618 (218.67) behind a 1254 second series.

Doubles World Champions Hwang/Gang were a distant third with 2458 (204.83), 42 pins ahead of Milki Ng and Sylvia Kong, Hong Kong and Chen Dongdong and Yang Suiling, China, who were tied for fourth place at 2416.

After two out of four disciplines, the Koreans hold the top 4 spots in All Events (combines results of Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team). Gye overtook the lead with 2690 12-game total and an average of 224.17. Son is second with 2649, one pin ahead of Shin (2648) and another pin ahead of Hwang (2647).

Places 5-7 belong to Japanese bowlers Misaki Mukotani (2581), Nao Ohishi (2554) and Haruka Matsuda (2533). Milki Ng is the best bowler from the host country in 8th place with 2492.

The women's bowling competition in the 5th East Asian Games drew 32 players from six countries, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Macau, who will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines: Singles, Doubles, Trios, 5-player Team, All Events and Masters.
