Korea dominates men's and women's Trios event after 3/6 games

    Women sit in 1, 2 and men in 1, 3 after three games on short oil

    2009EAGLogo_small.jpg 2009EAGGyeMinYoungShinBoHyunGangHyeEun.jpgTeam Korea dominated the first block on short oil in both the men's and women's Trios event of the 5th East Asian Games bowling competition Wednesday at Hong Kong Bowling City in Hong Kong, China.

    The women, who have won gold and silver in Singles and gold, silver and bronze in Doubles, sit in 1 and 2 after 3 out of 6 games. Gang Hye-Eun, Shin Bo-Hyun and Gye Min-Young (pictured right, r-l) set the pace with 1967 pinfall total, an average of 218.56, behind games of 665, 651 and 651.

    Hwang Sun-Ok, Jeon Eun-Hee and Son Yun-Hee are 47 pins behind 1ith 1919 featuring games of 653, 623 and 643.

    Chinese Taipei with Wang Ting-Wen, Wang Ya-Ting and Trios World champion Yang Hao-Ting sit in third place with 1852 (205.78).

Hong Hae-Sol, Kim Tae-Young and Kim Jae-Hoon (pictured left, l-r) led the 12 trios from six countries with 2021 pinfall total and an average of 224.56. The Koreans sandwiched a 606 game between huge 690 and 725.

    Japan with Doubles champion Tomoyuki Sasaki, Singles champion Toshihiko Takahashi and veteran Masaaki Takemoto are 41 pins behind in second place with 1980 (220.00) including games of 679, 657 and 644.

    Choi Ki-Bong, Suh Sang-Cheon and Jang Dong-Chul, who led after two games, landed in third place just 8 pins behind the Japanese with 1972 (219.11) featuring games of 664, 724 and 584.

    The second 3-game block on Thursday morning will determine the winners.

    The bowling competition in the 5th East Asian Games drew 32 women and 43 men from eight countries, China, Chinese Taipei, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau and Mongolia, who will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines: Singles, Doubles, Trios, 5-player Team, All Events and Masters.
