PBA.com’s Xtra Frame set to kick off busy summer of coverage

    2010 PBA Spare Shots #12

PBAXtraFrame_small.jpgIn case you think there’s not much going on in the world of bowling during the summer months, PBA.com’s Xtra Frame online video streaming service will demonstrate otherwise.

While the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour begins gearing up for fall, the summer months belong to the PBA Senior Tour and the PBA’s seven regional programs, and that’s where Xtra Frame will turn its attention.

Xtra Frame will be on location to cover the championship rounds of the final three PBA Senior Tour events of 2010, along with select PBA Regional events where some of the stars of the PBA Tour will work on keeping their games sharp while the future stars of the PBA test their skills against them.

Keep in mind that first-time PBA Senior or regional champions earn the right to bowl for the $250,000 first prize in the record-setting $1 million PBA Tournament of Champions early in 2010 in Las Vegas.

In August and September, Xtra Frame’s Jeff Mark (“The Bowling Doctor”) will begin a cross-country trek to provide live final-day reports from:

    • Joint Central/Midwest Region Thunderbowl Open from Mokena, Ill., on Sunday, Aug. 1
    • Joint Central/Midwest Region Terre Haute, Ind., Open on Sunday, Aug. 8
    • PBA Senior Lake County Indiana Open in Hammond, Ind., on Thursday, Aug. 12
    • Central Region Lefeld Implement Classic from Coldwater, Ohio, on Sunday, Aug. 15
    • PBA Senior Decatur Open from Decatur, Ill., on Tuesday, Aug. 17
    • Central Region Marion Open from Marion, Ind., on Sunday, Aug. 22

Xtra Frame is available to subscribers only.

Hall of Famer Dave Ferraro makes PBA Senior Tour debut

PBA Hall of Famer Dave Ferraro of Kingston, N.Y., a 10-time PBA Tour champion, almost made his PBA Senior Tour debut in PBA Senior U.S. Open in Las Vegas a spectacular event, charging out of 63rd place after two qualifying rounds to eventually finish third.

After defeating former journeyman PBA Tour competitor Don Moser of Murrietta, Calif., 194-177, in the first stepladder match, Ferraro lost to eventual champion Mark Williams of Beaumont, Texas, in the semifinal match, 221-188.

Moser, who bowled the Senior U.S. Open as a non-member, also was participating in his first Senior Tour event. Williams then won his first PBA Senior Tour major title with a 198-181 decision over reigning Senior Player of the Year Ron Mohr of Eagle River, Alaska.

After five Senior Tour events, which have been won by five different players (Dave’s older brother Steve Ferraro, Wayne Webb, Walter Ray Williams Jr., Don Sylvia and Mark Williams), Mark Williams leads the Senior Tour in earnings ($21,803) and points (68,765) while Webb is the average leader (226.48).

Haugen comes close in Bowling Promotion Cup in France

Haugen led the special six-player, made-for-European-TV event through qualifying, but lost in the singles final match to Phil Hulst of the Netherlands, 219-172.

Haugen also teamed up with Willy Garreaud of France in doubles, but the duo lost a two-game Baker format title match to Bruno Bidone of France and Sergey Andreev of Russia, 180-153 and 176-160.
