Malaysia leads Trios even at Men's World Championships after Squad 1

    Trios from Italy, United States and Chinese Taipei in 2nd through 4th

    2010MWCLiewRidhwanKong.jpg2010MWRampiPirozziReviglio.jpgAlex Liew, Syafiq Ridhwan and Aaron Kong (pictured left, l-r) of Malaysia combined for 1964 3-game total to lead the first squad of the Trios preliminaries at the Men's World Championships in Germany. The three Malaysians had games of 681, 649 and 634 and averaged 218.22 on the 38-foot Atlanta lane conditioning pattern.

    Ridhwan led the trio with an individual 3-game series of 660 with Liew and Kong close behind with 657 and 647, respectively.

    Trailing the Malaysians by mere eight pins were Mauro Rampi, Massimo Pirozzi and Marco Reviglio (right, l-r), Italy with 1956 (217.33). The Italians came out of the gates quickly Tuesday morning at Dream-Bowl Palace in the city of Unterföhring in the outskirts of Munich with 716 including a 279 game by Pirozzi and added 581 and 659.

Rounding out the top 4 Cheng Hsing-Chao, Hung Kun-Yi and Wu Hao-Ming, Chinese Taipei, with 1923 (213.67).

    Singles silver medalist Choi Bok-Eum, who won the Trios gold medal for Korea at the 2008 MWC in Thailand (with Kim Tae-Young and Choi Ki-Bong), teamed with Jang Dong-Chul and Cho Young-Seon (pictured right, r-l) to sit in fifth place with 1897 (210.78). The Koreans led the field of 40 trios after two games (686, 670) but fell out of the top 4 behind a final game of 541.

    Squad 1 is done for today and will return on Wednesday for the final 3-game block on the longer oil pattern.

    The field was split into three squads who will bowl two 3-game series, one each on the 38-foot Atlanta (Tuesday) and 45-foot Mexico City (Wednesday) oil pattern. The top four trios after 6 games will advance to the playoffs starting on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CET (2 p.m. EST).

    The 2010 WTBA World Men's Championships will run through Aug. 21st. Players will compete for medals in six events - Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-player Team, All Events and Masters match play.

    Bowlingdigital.com will provide live streaming of the semifinals, finals and award ceremonies of each event.
