Zavjalova, Vēzis to represent Latvia at QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in France

    2010BWCLATQDianaZavjalovaDanielVezis.jpgDiana Zavjalova and Daniel Vēzis will represent Latvia at the 2010 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Toulon, France, after winning the Latvian BWC Qualifier finals at Toss bowling center in Riga on Sunday, August 22nd. Toss Bowling hosted the World Cup in 2002.

    The top 6 women and the top 8 men advanced to the single-elimination finals (two-game matches decided by total pinfall) to determine the Latvian World Cup representatives.

    In the women's championship match, Zavjalova, seeded third, rolled games of 233 and 201 to beat out top seeded Marija Tkačenko (221+153) for the ticket to Toulon, 434-374.

    Zavjalova flew past No. 2 seed, Tatjana Teļnova in the semis, 476-320, while Tkačenko survived a strong charge by No. 5 seed, Elizabete Varava, 434-427. Varava defeated Teļnova in a rolloff for third and fourth place, 417-366.

    On the men's side, Vezis, the No. 2 seed, eliminated No. 6 Andis Darzinš in the semis, 422-351, to set up a title match against top seeded Arturs Levikins, who ousted No. 5 Haralds Zeidmanis, 518-445.

    Vezis posted two big games, 244 and 233, to defeat Levikins, 477-420, for the title and to secure his ticket to the World Cup. Zeidmanis topped Darzinš in a rolloff for third and fourth place, 372-346.

    The 46th annual edition of the prestigious QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will be held from Oct. 15-24, 2010 in Toulon, France. Bowlingdigital will cover the BWC live at Bowling de Provence.
