Henderson, Nevada to host Bowling's Combined World Championships in 2013

The city of Henderson, Nevada, located just a few miles South of Las Vegas, has been selected to host the 2013 WTBA World Championships. The first World Championships which will combine both men and women since the year 2003 will be held at Strike Zone Bowling Center inside Sunset Station Hotel & Casino most likely from August 18-31.
The decision was made by the Executive Board of the World Tenpin Bowling Association during the board's meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, from December 1-3. The World Tenpin Bowling Association is the governing body of approximately 2,800,000 registered bowlers from 113 member federations all over the world.
Since the start of the bidding process in April 2010, the WTBA the field of potential host cities was trimmed to three: Abu Dhabi (UAE), Munich, (Germany) and Henderson.
The city of Henderson was selected due to its innovation on how the city will enhance the scope, presentation and marketing of the World Championships and the sport of tenpin bowling.
Strike Zone Bowling Center is a 77,000 square-foot bowling center that’s boasts 72 lanes with 36" color monitors and 42" plasma television screens between each pair of lanes. With eight 16-foot projection screens supporters and media will experience bowling competition in a whole new way.
"I congratulate the City of Henderson whose bid shows that they have both the vision and capacity to organize a fantastic event in 2013 and raise the World Bowling Championships to new standards," said WTBA President, Kevin Dornberger (pictured right).
"This for us is an important step towards our continual development as a global sport and our drive towards Olympic inclusion."
Starting in 2013, the combined men's and women's World Championships will be held once every four years. It will be the most prestigious international bowling event where the best bowlers - men and women - from around the world will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in a 14-day extravaganza.
