Ballmaster champ Koivuniemi, top-ranked Pöllänen overtake early lead in 2011 EBT ranking

    201011PBAMikaKoivuniemi_small.jpg2011EBT01KristaPollanen_small.jpgFor the second consecutive year Mika Koivuniemi, a native Finn who lives in Hartland, Mich., United States, overtook the lead in the European Bowling Tour men's ranking after the first event of the season as the 8-time PBA champion successfully defended his title in the season-opening Brunswick Ballmaster Open. Krista Pöllänen, Finland, who was the best woman at Tali Bowl in Helsinki, Finland, overtook the early lead in the women's ranking.

    2010EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2011 European Bowling Tour will feature 22 tournaments - 2 Platinum, 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 7 Satellite - in 17 countries , three in Denmark, two each in Finland and Spain and one each in Austria, England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Qatar, Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey.

    Two of the 22 tournaments, the Brunswick Ballmaster Open and the Brunswick Euro Challenge will be a part of the new World Bowling Tour organized by the World Tenpin Bowling Association for 2011.

    The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the Brunswick Ballmaster Open gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each tournament of the European Bowling Tour cash ranking points no matter from which country or World Tenpin Bowling Association Zone (Europe, Asia, America) he or she comes.

    The total prize fund of the 2011 Tour will exceed 1 million Euro. The top 16 men and women in the EBT ranking will qualify for the 2012 EBT Masters to be held in conjunction with the 3rd Dream Bowl Palace Open in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany April 30 and May 1, 2012.

    The 2011 European Bowling Tour takes a five-week break before heading to Galeria Rozrywki Miraz bowling center in Wroclaw, Poland for the 5th International Wroclaw Open by Hammer, an EBT Satellite tournament held from Feb., 14-20, 2011.
