Liz Johnson averages 254 to win Robby's Vernon Hills Women's Open

Liz Johnson (pictured left) of Cheektowaga, N.Y., captured the Robby's Vernon Hills Women's Open at Brunswick Zone Hawthorn by 138 pins over Caryn Evitts of Waukegan, Ill.
Johnson averaged 254 for the tournament, had a 5-1 match play record and 3,208 total pins including match play bonus pins. She received $1,250, a custom-made jewelry set from Matt Cole and an EFX performance bracelet.
As a national titlist she was not eligible for the paid entry into the 2011 Bowling's U.S. Women's Open to be held June 24-28, 2011 in Euless, Tex., so it was subsequently awarded to Joey Biondo (right) of Carpentersville, Ill., who finished fourth.
Evitts, finished with 3,070 pins and earned $825, declined the U.S. Women's Open spot. Third place finisher Lori Colclasure of Grayslake, Ill., 3,031 pins, also declined the spot.
Biondo started the event with games of 280, 289 and 279 for an 848 series. Tracy Luncsford of Des Plaines, Ill., had a 299 in qualifying. Johnson finished the event with games of 268, 279 and 279 for an 826 series.
The fifth and final event of the five-tournament series sponsored by the brands of Ebonite International will be the Columbia 300 Indiana Women's Open to be held May 22 at Olympia Lanes in Hammond, Ind. A sixth entry will be awarded at the end of the series to the highest earnings winner after the five events who has not already earned a U.S. Women's Open entry.
