Martin Larsen, Cherie Tan led top 8 men and women into match play finals

    Larsen and compatriot Persson-Planefors win third block on mixed oil

    201011PBAMartinLarsen.jpgLong-time Swedish national team member Martin Larsen (pictured left2009DHCCherieTan.jpg) and Cherie Tan (right) of Singapore led the top 8 from the men's and women's division into the finals of the EBT Masters Tuesday at Gladiator Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

    Larsen averaged 247 on mixed oil - one lane dressed with medium oil, the other with long oil - en route to lead the men's field after the preliminaries with 4339 total and an average of 241.06 for 18 games.

    Larsen cashed 400 Euro for leading the block and another 400 for winning the prelims.

Mika Koivuniemi (right), Finland, who led after Monday's six-game blocks on medium and long oil, slipped to third place with 4223 behind a 1349 series on mixed condition.

    Joining the top 3 in the round robin match play finals over seven games were 4th Osku Palermaa, Finland, 4148; 5th Mike Fagan, United States, 4141; 6th Gery Verbruggen, Belgium, 4066; 7th Mathias Ă…rup, Sweden, 4056, and 8th Tore Torgersen, Norway, 4048.

    2011EBT04JolinePerssonPlanefors2.jpg2011EBT04KristaPollanen2.jpgSingapore national team member Cherie Tan, who led the women's field after 12 games thanks to a second-place finish on medium the field-best series on long oil, had the third-highest 1292 series on mixed oil to win the qualifying by 109 pins with 4033 pinfall total and an average of 224.06. Tan pocketed 400 Euro for accomplishing the feat.

    Joline Persson-Planefors (left), Sweden, who led the 16 women on medium oil yesterday, earned her second 400 Euro after posting the field-best 1362 series on mixed oil today. She finished the preliminaries in second place with 3924.

    Also advancing to the finals were 4th Mai Ginge Jensen, Denmark, 3836; 5th Kamilla Kjeldsen, Denmark, 3804, the three time defending EBT Masters champion; 6th Lisanne Breeschoten (left), Netherlands, 3790; 7th Wendy Kok, Netherlands, 3759, and 8th Birgit Pöppler (right), Germany, 3712.

    The top 8 men and the top 8 women will determine the champion in seven games round robin match play with the pinfall total from the preliminaries being carried forward.

    The players with the highest pinfall total after 25 games including bonus points (20 for a win, 10 for a tie) will be crowned men's and women's EBT Masters champion and earn 4.000 Euro each.
