    2006 European Rankings

Britt_Brondsted_3945.jpg Paul_Moor_4064.jpg Two-time defending European ranking champions Paul Moor of England and Britt Bröndsted of Denmark sit atop the men's and women's 2006 rankings after the Istanbul Open, the 8th of 20 events on the 2006 European Bowling Tour.

Moor overtook the lead in the men's rankings thanks to the victory over Jason Belmonte, Australia, in the title match in Istanbul. The lefty earned 100 ranking points to overtake previous leader and last year's runner-up, Osku Palermaa of Finland, by mere two points with 251 total points.

Osku_Palermaa_5524.jpg Jason_Belmonte_4930.jpg Palermaa (left), who uses both hands to deliver the ball, didn't bowl in Istanbul and slipped to third with 249 points. Belmonte (right), another two-handed bowler, received 80 points to move into second place with 250 points. Moor's compatriot Stuart Williams is a distant fourth with 188 points. PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss earned 26 ranking points in Istanbul to sit in a tied 62nd place.

Bröndsted finished the women's rankings in Istanbul in second position to earn 80 points. The Dane was tied with Mor Aviram, but the Israeli was seeded first due to the higher games in the last round. However, Bröndsted widened her lead to 57 points with 330 point total.

Zara_Glover_4747.jpg Patricia_Schwarz_5631.jpg England's Zara Glover (left), who received ranking points in all eight tournaments this season, remained in second place with 273 points. Patricia Schwarz (right) and Martina Beckel, both of Germany, fourth and fifth place finishers in Istanbul, leaped into third and fourth place with 184 and 164 points, respectively.

The top 8 men and top 8 women in the rankings at the end of the season qualify for the 2007 World ranking Masters to be held in Doha, Qatar. Professionals such as Brian Voss aren't eligible to bowl in the World Ranking Masters, but players from the Asian and American Zone can qualify for the WRM through the European Bowling Tour.

The European Bowling Tour will take a three-week hiatus before heading to Denmark for the Brunswick Aalborg International at Lovvang Bowling Center in Aalborg, May 22-28, 2006.
