Powered by a perfect game, Kenny Parks (pictured left) of Hammond, Ind., charged into the lead Tuesday after two rounds of qualifying at the 2011 United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters.

Parks, who won the event in 2008 and finished fourth last year, has a 10-game total of 2,250, an average of 225 per game, to lead a field of 249 of the country's top bowlers age 50 and older at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl.

Parks started the day with a 226 game before tossing his lowest score of the tournament - 153 - and rebounding to finish with 300, 255 and 203 to surge into the lead.

"The very last shot in that 153 game, I threw a different ball and decided to stay with it and was fortunate it worked out," Parks said. "I was really happy with the 300 because I felt like I made really good shots that entire game."

Five final games of qualifying will be contested Wednesday before the cut is made to the double-elimination match-play bracket. Parks said he likes the position he's in heading into the final day of qualifying.

"Overall I'm happy and sitting OK," Parks said. "I have to keep it going tomorrow, and I've got a good idea where to play the lanes."

In second place, just behind Parks, is Sam Maccarone (left) of Sewell, N.J., with 2,241, including a 1,179 total Tuesday. Kevin Croucher (right) of Grants Pass, Ore., sits in third place with 2,212, while first-round leader Rick Vittone is fourth with 2,140.

Tournament host and defending champion Wayne Webb (left), Grove City, Ohio, leaped five spots to fifth place with 2,133. PBA super star Walter Ray Williams Jr. (right photo, right) of Ocala, Fla., slipped from eighth to tenth place with 2,107. The top 63 players after 15 games will join defending champion Wayne Webb and advance to the double-elimination match-play bracket on Thursday and Friday. The winner will earn $14,000 and the total prize pool is more than $110,000.
