Team rosters are out for the Women's World Championships in Hong Kong

    Some 180 players to compete in Hong Kong, China Sept. 1-11

    All but four countries, who have intended to participate in the 2011 Women's World Championships in Hong Kong, China, have announced their players who will compete for the medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team, All Events and Masters Sept. 1-11 at bowling center Hong Kong Bowling City at EMAX mall in Kowloon Bay.

    The 36 countries and territories which have registered for the 4th WWC are (in alphabetical order):
    Australia, Bahamas, Bulgaria, Canada, Catalonia, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Singapore, Sweden, Ukraine, United States, Venezuela and the host country of Hong Kong, China.

    All countries but Bahamas, Moldova, Philippines and Puerto Rico have named their team rosters. 28 countries are supposed to send a full team of six or five players while Bahamas (4), Catalonia, Israel (2 each), Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania (1 each) cannot compete in all disciplines. Moldova and Puerto Rico haven't announced the number of players yet.

    2011USWOClaraGuerrero.jpg2011AsCWMHwangSunOk.jpgThe list of players features several gold medalists from the 2009 WWC in Las Vegas spearheaded by two-time gold medalists Clara Juliana Guerrero (pictured left) of Colombia (All Events, Masters) and Korea's Hwang Sun-Ok (right; Doubles, Team).

    Joining Sun-Ok from the 2009 Team champion are Jeon Eun-Hee and Son Yun-Hee as well as substitute Hong Su-Yeon.

    Also present in Hong Kong is defending Singles champion Stefanie Nation from the United States and Tsai Hsin-Yi, Chinese Taipei, the sole returning player from the gold medal winning Trio.

    The two lane conditioning pattern categories to be used in Hong Kong are long and medium. According to WTBA Playing Rule 4.6.5 the specific patterns will be announced at the Team Managers Meeting (TMM) on Thursday, Sept 1st.

    Singles and Doubles will be contested on one oil pattern, while Trios and Team will feature both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). The Masters will be staged on dual lane condition.

    The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The No. 1 meet No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will determine the world champion, while losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.
