PBA’s Xtra Frame continues to provide a full schedule of programming this week, including exclusive coverage of the PBA Xtra Frame Storm Open from Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville, Ill., April 23-24, followed by the PBA50 United Healthcare Sun Bowl in The Villages presented by Radical, April 24-26. PWBA action returns to Xtra Frame April 30-May 1 with the PWBA Las Vegas Open from Texas Station.

The May schedule gets underway with the PBA50 Mooresville Ford Open presented by Columbia 300 and Miller High Life May 2-4; the Nationwide PWBA Sonoma County Open May 6-7; the PBA50 Johnny Petraglia BVL Open presented by Brunswick May 8-10 and the PWBA Storm Sacramento Open May 13-14.

PWBA/PBA Women’s Regional Schedule set for 2016

In addition to a full schedule of QubicaAMF PBA Regional Tour events that provide competitive opportunities for women bowlers, the PBA will offer a dedicated PWBA/PBA Women’s Regional tournament open exclusively to women bowlers as part of its 2016 program.

The 2016 PWBA-PBA Women’s Regional events will be:

June 17-19 – PWBA/PBA Secoma Lanes Northwest Open presented by Storm, Secoma Lanes, Federal Way, Wash.
Aug. 19-21 – PWBA/PBA Emerald Bowl Southwest Open, Emerald Bowl, Houston, Texas
Aug. 26-28 – PWBA/PBA Lafayette Lanes South Open, LaFayette Lanes, Fayetteville, N.C.
Sept. 16-18 – PWBA/PBA Maple City Dodge East Open powered by Ram, Maple City Bowl, Hornell, N.Y.
Sept. 17-18 – PWBA/PBA Budweiser Midwest Open hosted by Diamond Jo Casino, Cherry Lanes, Dubuque, Iowa
Sept. 30-Oct. 2 – PWBA/PBA Parkin Bowling Supply West Open, Bowlium Lanes, Montclair, Calif.
Oct. 8-9 – PWBA/PBA Northwest Lanes Central Open, Northway Lanes, Muskegon, Mich.

In addition to the women-only events, women bowlers, whether Professional Women’s Bowling Association members or not, are invited to participate in all QubicaAMF PBA Regional Tour events where the highest placing woman (if not among the regular cashers) is guaranteed $250, and one in five women entered in each tournament is guaranteed at least a $250 prize.

In each of the PBA’s regional programs, women also earn points in each tournament toward berths in the end-of-season PWBA/PBA Women’s Regional Challenge special event that will be held as part of PBA World Series of Bowling VIII in Reno Nov. 27-Dec. 11.

The leading women in competition points from the PBA’s East, South, Central, Midwest, Southwest, West, Northwest and Japan Regions will receive paid entries into WSOB VIII along with berths in the special women’s challenge event.

QubicaAMF PBA Regional Update: Gollick tops teenager to win in Maryland

2016PBABowlersDiscountProShopEasternOpenTommyGollick.jpg Tommy Gollick (pictured with sponsor Richard Byrd, left) of Oberlin, Pa., defeated teenage amateur Andrew Lazarchick of Brick, N.J., 217-198, to win the PBA Bowlers Discount Pro Shop Eastern Open presented by Hammer at Brunswick Zone Normandy Sunday. It was Gollick’s fourth career title and his first since 2013.

Trailing 2-1 in the best-of-five-game Round of 16, Gollick rallied for a 3-2 win over Will Vidulich of Parsippany, N.J. He then eliminated Tim Foy Jr. of Seaford, Del., 2-0, and he defeated Kevin Donovan of Painted Post, N.Y., 233-223, in the semifinal round, throwing three clutch strikes in the 10th frame to secure the win.

In the championship match, Gollick faced Lazarchick, who was celebrating his 17th birthday while bowling in only his third PBA Regional tournament. Again Gollick threw clutch strikes at the end of the game to secure the $2,700 first prize.

Lazarchick added $1,600 to his scholarship account for his runner-up finish. Lazarchick edged qualifying leader Anthony Pepe of Elmhurst, N.Y., 225-224, in his semifinal match.

Ronnie Sparks of Ecorse, Mich. defeated Eugene McCune of Munster, Ind., 222-191, to win the PBA Elkhart Central/Midwest Open presented by Brunswick at Country Club Lanes in Elkhart, Ind., Sunday for his first PBA Regional title and a $2,500 first prize.

Sparks, who is now eligible to enter the 2017 PBA Tournament of Champions, topped J.R. Raymond of Saginaw, Mich., 244-233, while McCune downed Tom Hess of Urbandale, Iowa, 267-211, in the semifinal round to set up the championship match.

Next up in QubicaAMF PBA Regional Tour competition is the PBA50 Sarasota Open presented by Ebonite, Wednesday, April 20-Friday, April 22 – which will give PBA50 Tour competitors a mid-week stop following the Pasco County Open and heading into the UnitedHealthcare Sun Bowl in The Villages presented by Radical at Spanish Springs Lanes (April 23-26).

A second mid-week event, the PBA50 Cherokee Lanes South Open presented by Roto Grip in Canton, Ga., is set for April 28-30 as the PBA50 Tour leaves Florida and heads to North Carolina for the Mooresville Ford Open presented by Columbia 300 and Miller High Life May 1-4.

In addition to the PBA Xtra Frame Storm Open at Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville, Ill., April 22-24, the PBA West and Northwest Regions return to Hawaii for the annual Hawaii West/Northwest Open at Scofield Air Based April 24, the Fort Shafter West/Northwest Hawaii Open April 27, and the Hickam AFB West/Northwest Open April 29-May 1.
