« Marshall Kent dominates opening round of match play at 2016 U.S. Open

Butturff captured the
PBA Xtra Frame Las Vegas Open, defeating Anthony Simonsen, Princeton, Texas, 277-211, marking his second career PBA title. His first was the PBA Xtra Frame Southwest Open in Lubbock, Texas in June.
The stepladder finals started with the fifth-seed Simonsen ousting fourth-seed Bill O’Neill, Langhorne, Pennsylvania, 242-224. The reigning USBC Masters Champion then defeated third-seed Tommy Jones, Simpsonville, South Carolina, 248-191. Second-seed Jesper Svensson, Sweden, fell in the semifinal 267-258, setting up the title match.
Starting with the second game in qualifying, Butturff led the tournament the rest of the way. A narrow lead after qualifying was turned into a 7-1 opening round of match play three hundred pin lead, ending up with nearly a 450-pin lead going into the stepladder finals, averaging just over 252.
Others obtaining votes this month were Jesper Svensson, winner of the European Bowling Tour Norwegian Open, Jenny Wegner and Wang Hongbo, women’s and men’s winners of the 52nd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup.
