The 6th PABCON Senior Championships and the 4th PABCON Super Senior Championships concluded Friday at bowling center Let’s Bowl in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, with match play masters.

Mexico’s Salvador Suarez and Isaac Amkie wrapped up the Championships with victory in the men’s division, while Lucy Sandelin, USA, and Deb Linington of Canada took home the hardware in the women’s division.

The top 16 men and women in senior all-events and the top 4 each in the super senior division determined the masters champion in best-of-three game single-elimination format in bracket system.

Suarez, seeded third in the men’s senior masters bracket after winning the bronze medal in all-events, defeated Warren Eales, USA, in the gold medal match, two-games-to-none.

In a high-scoring semi-final match against Eales’ team mate Steve Badovinac, Suarez won the first game, 257-246, lost the second 255-265, before he won by one pin in the deciding third game, 205-204, to advance. Eales swept Joe Ciach of Canada in the other semi-final match.

Jose Perez of the Dominican Republic set a highlight in his quarterfinal match against Badovinac when he posted one of two perfect games on the final day of competition, yet lost to the American, 2-1.

Lucy Sandelin also achieved perfection her way to gold medal in women’s senior masters, her third gold medal in this Championships after doubles and trios.

With the help of the 300 game, Sandelin defeated her doubles partner, Paula Vidad, 2.1, then swept Teresa Piccini of Mexico and Canada’s Deb Lee before she defeated team mate Sharon Powers for the gold medal, 2-1, including a 222-192 win in the decider.

The super senior division drew only 12 men and 12 women, a loss of 16 bowlers compared to the 23 men and 17 women in 2016 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Therefore the Pan American Bowling Confederation decided that only four instead of eight bowlers in each division would advance to the masters finals.

In the men’s semi-final matches, Hilton Nuñez, Dominican Republic, stunned top seeded singles, doubles, mixed team and all-events champion Alfonso Rodriguez, Mexico, 2-1, while Rodriguez’s doubles and team partner, Isaac Amkie swept Jack Guay of Canada, 2-0.

Amkie, who was second in all-events and third in singles, defeated Nuñez in two games, 191-169 and 228-193, for his third gold medal.

Linington went on to defeat Berra in two games, 183-145 and 166-154, to wrap up the title.
