World Cup kicks off with Official Practice, Opening Ceremonies Monday

The 54th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup gets underway on Monday, November 5, with the official practice at Sam’s Town bowling center and the Opening Ceremonies at 4 p.m. at PST Sam’s Town Live, an entertainment venue inside Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas.

It marks the third time after 2015 and 1999 that the prestigious World Cup visits Sam’s Town and the fourth time that it will be held in the United States.

Tournament organizer Anne-Marie Board and the World Cup staff are expecting bowlers from more than 80 countries to participate in the five-day competition (Nov. 6-10), the biggest event in the sport of tenpin bowling in regard to participating countries.

Among the competitors are former World Cup champions Osku Palermaa (Finland; 2006), Aumi Guerra (Dominican Republic; 2010 & ’11 – left) and Mel Oates (Wales; 2000 – right). The official number of participating players and countries will be announced after the first squads on Tuesday.

Bowlingdigital will provide on-site coverage of the 54th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup from Las Vegas including reports, photos and results after each round commencing with the first round of qualifying on Tuesday, Nov. 6, all the way through to the finals on Saturday, Nov. 10, completed in the afternoon.

All competitors at the 2018 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will bowl 24 qualifying games over three days before the field is cut to the top 24 for eight additional games. The 32-game pinfall totals will determine the 8 players who advance to eight games round-robin match-play (30 pins for each win, 15 for a tie).

In a change to last year, the top 4 players with highest 40-game total including bonus pins will advance to the finals. No. 1 bowls no. 4 and no. 2 bowls no. 3 in the semi-finals. The winners bowl for the title.
