Ong and Armein continue to lead 2006 Asian Rankings

    2006BWCPuttyArmein_small.jpg 2006MWCRemyOng_small.jpg Remy Ong from Singapore and Putty Armein from Indonesia continued to lead the men's and women's Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) rankings after the conclusion of the 15th Asian Games in Qatar.

    Ong, a three-time gold medalist in the 2002 Asian Games, won two silver medals in Qatar in Trios and the Masters for a total of 575 ranking points. Trailing Ong by just 26 points to sit in second place is Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia (549), who won the gold medal in Singles

    Rounding out the top 8, who will qualify for the 2007 World Ranking Masters in Doha, Qatar, are Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, Malaysians Alex Liew and Azidi Ameran, Biboy Rivera, Philippines, Jason Belmonte, Australia, who is already qualified through the European rankings and Yannaphon Larpapharat, Thailand. Just outside the box looking in is Zulmazran Zulkifli, Malaysia, in 9th position.

    Armein has 534 ranking points and widened her lead in the women's rankings to 105 points. The Indonesian earned silver in Singles at the Asian Games and finished fifth in Masters. Armein is one of mere two non-Malaysian players among the top 8. Three-time world champion Wang Yu-Ling, Chinese Taipei, in fifth place is the other.

    Rounding out the top 8 women are Malaysians Shalin Zulkifli, Esther Cheah, Lai Kin Ngoh, Zandra Aziela, Choy Poh Lai, and Wendy Chai. Cheah, Chai, Aziela and Zulkifli won the gold medal in the five-player Team vent in Qatar. Cheah captured her second gold medal in Singles and finished second in the Masters.
