Israel strikes gold in Boys Doubles at 20th European Youth Championships

2007EYCBoysDoublesGoldISR.jpg Ben Fishler and Aviv Alfital (l-r with coach Steve Rosenfeld) from Israel captured the first gold medal in the Boys Division at the 20th European Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The two 18-year-old players shot a 2608 series in the third of four squads Easter Monday at Strike Bowling Club, an average of 217.33 over six games, and remained unbeaten in the 8 p.m. squad.

The Israelis had games of 446, 428, 403, 449, 430 and 452. Fishlewr led the way with 1347 (224.50) and Alfital had 1261(210.17).

2007EYCBoysDoublesSilverFIN.jpg Perttu Jussila and Tony Ranta (l-r with coach Juha Maja) from Finland, who rolled a 2548 six-game series (212.33 average) in Squad 1, earned the silver medal.

Ranta had 1343 and Jussila contributed 1205.



2007EYCBoysDoublesBronzeIRE.jpg Ireland's Keith O'Reilly and Cian Cloake (l-r with coach Mark Hinschliffe), beat out the second Israel duo, Ori Sonnenschein and Dor Speizman, for the bronze medal by four pins, O'Reilly had games of 223, 216, 247, 222, 209 and 245, an average of 227.00 to overtake the lead in All Events with 1362 and Cloake added 1166 to take the bronze medal with 2528 and an average of 210.67.

2007EYCArturusLevikinsSidAllenArturusNikolajevs.jpg The Israelis had to settle for fourth place with 2524. Arturs Nikolajevs and Arturs Levikins led the fourth and final squad with 2500 including a 509 in the first game. The picture shows the Latvians with coach Sid Allen.

Norwegians Alexander Kvinnesland and Ole Jorgen Arntsen were one pin behind in sixth at 2499.

2007EYCKrasitskiyTimofeevShultse.jpg Russia's Nikita Timofeev rolled the highest game of the championship thus far in game #6 with 279.

As it was his sole game over 200, Timofeev (center, 1157) and his partner Ilya Krasitskiy (left, 1116) landed in 40th place with 2273.



2007EYCCarlMagnusPettersen_SveinAkeEk.jpg Svein Ake Ek, 2006 EYC All Events silver medalist, fired a 278 in the first game with his partner Carl Magnus Pettersen. Ek (right) totaled 1283 pins and Pettersen added 1186 to land in 11th place with 2469 pinfall total.
