Sweden comes up big to take the lead in Boys Trios at 20th European Youth Championships

2007EYCOjalaSorensenHeldenYngstrom.jpg Defending Champion Sweden overtook the lead in the Boys Trios event at the 20th European Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Johan Sörensen, Kim Ojala and Johan Hellden rolled games of 705, 598 and 684 to move to the top of the leaderboard after two of three squad with 1987 pinfall total and an average of 220.87.

Sörensen led the team with 682, with Hellden four pins behind at 678. Ojala added 627. The picture shows Ojala, Sörensen and Hellden (l-r) with coach Stefan Yngström in the back.

2007EYCLanzafarmeTomatisRadiFormisano.jpg Squad 1 leader Italy with Daniele Tomatis, Tommaso Radi and Augusto Formisano (pictured from l-r with coach Salvatore Lanzalame, far left) fell one spot to second place with 1930, 57 pins behind Sweden.

England's Matt Miller, Andrew Jones and Matt Chamberlain, second after Squad 1 slipped to third with 1913, while Israel with EYC Doubles champions Aviv Alfital (left)/Ben Fishler (right) and Oron Cohen (center) sit in fourth place 1882.

2007EYCJussilaHuhtirantaRantaMaja.jpg Perttu Jussila (left) and Tony Ranta (second from right), who won silver in doubles, and Juuso Huhtiranta (second from left, with coach Juha Maja on the right) posted the second-highest score in Squad 2 to move into fifth place with 1880, a 208.89 average over three games.

Ranta led the way with 654 including a 263 in game two. Huhtiranta felled 634 with a high game of 258, also in game two. Jussila contributed 592 including a low game of 178, unfortunately in game two which resulted in a 699 game.

The third and final squad at 9.30 pmwill conclude the day. The second block will be played on Wednesday, April 11.
