Qenn, Roumimper win the first gold medals in the 24th Southeast Asian Games bowling competition

Shaun Ng Qenn, Singapore and Tannya Roumimper, Indonesia started the bowling competition in the 24th Southeast Asian Games at SF Strike Bowl Ramkhamhaeng in Bangkok, Thailand with victory in the men's and women's Singles.
Qenn had high games of 234 and 248 on the short oil pattern en route to win the men's gold medal with 1250 six-game total and an average of 208.33. The silver and the bronze medal went to Malaysia. Alex Liew finished with 245 to beat out Zulmazran Zulkifli for the second place by six pins, 1237 to 1231.
Raoul Miranda, Philippines closed out his series with the 279 high game but had to settle for fourth place with 1216. The rest of the 41-player field from seven countries, Indonesia, Laos Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and the host country Thailand, averaged less than 200.
On the women's side, only three of the 36 players managed to reach the 1200-plateau or a 200 average. Roumimper started with 645 for the first three games and despite a sub-par 599 in the second set, the Indonesian maintained the lead to take the gold medal with 1244 pinfall total and an average of 207.33.
Local favorite Angkana Netrviseth took the lead in game #5 with a 258 game but slipped to second place behind a final 191 game. Shalin Zulkifli had two solid blocks (600 and 601, both including a 164 game) to earn the bronze medal with 1201.
All players will return on Sunday for the men's and women's Doubles event on the long oil pattern.
