Hsing-Chao comes from behind to win men's Thailand Open Masters title

Shuk Han win's women's title by the by the closest possible margin

2008THAOpenLogo.jpg Cheng Hsing-Chao, Chinese Taipei and Chan Shuk Han, Hong Kong, took different routes to the men's and women's Open Masters titles in the 34th Thailand International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at S.F. Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Hsing-Chao, the No. 6 seed, won four straight matches including 215-196 and 207-184 victories over No. 1 seeded Somjed Kusonpithak, Thailand, to triumph in the men's division.

Shuk Han led the women's finalists after two blocks of 8 games to earn the No. 1 seed. She lost the first game in the title match, 209-182, against No. 2 seed, Chien Hsiu Lan, Chinese Taipei, but escaped with the victory after a 207-206 in the decisive match.

Frawley, Zulkifli atop the leaderboards in Thailand International Open

Frawley had 3-game series of 747, 690 and 631 to lead the men's overseas pool with 2068 pinfall total and an average of 229.78. Adrian Ang, Malaysia, moved into second place with 2037 including a 736 series.

Rangsiman Thianhirun, Thailand, hold on to the lead in the local pool with 1996 (221.78). Shu Liang-Chen, Chinese Taipei, sits atop the local & overseas pool (players not among the top 8 in the local and the overseas pool, resp.) with 1935 (215.00).

Zulkifli had a high series of 722 and added 632 and 585 for 1939 pinfall total and an average of 215.44. Gunnalada Aree, Thailand, leads the local pool with 1872 (208.00) and Zandra Aziela, Malaysia, is first in the local & overseas pool with 1720 (191.11).

39 men (top 13 each from the local, overseas and local & overseas pool) plus defending champion Daniel Lim, Malaysia and 23 women (top 8 each from the local and overseas pool and the top 7 from the local & overseas pool) plus defending champion Chien Hsiu Lan, Chinese Taipei, will advance to the finals.

Those 40 men and 24 women will bowl two rounds of 8 games on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 5.00 pm local time. The top sex men and the top six women after 16 games will advance to the stepladder finals.

In the opening shootout match, players seeded fourth, fifth and sixth will face off. The winner meets the No. 2 seed in a match over game for the right to bowl the No. 1 seed for the title. The No. 1 seed must be defeated twice to win the title.

Frawley, Sui Ling set the pace in Thailand International Open


2008EBT05AndrewFrawley.jpg April 9 -- Andrew Frawley, Australia, and Yang Sui Ling, China, set the pace in the men's and women's Open Masters qualifying in the 34th Thailand International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at S.F. Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi. The center will host the Men's World Championships from August 21-31, 2008.

Frawley (pictured left), who finished fourth in the PBA World Championships earlier this year, posted the highest 3-game series of all competitors - men and women - with 747 added 690 and 631 to overtake the lead in the men's overseas pool with 2068 nine-game total and an average of 229.78.

Hussain Al Suwaidi used high series of 684 and 676 and a low set of 661 to overtake second place with 2021. Previous leader Fuaad Al Mas fell to third with 2015. Rangsiman Thianhirun and King Yap, both Thailand, lead the local and the local & overseas pool with 1996 and 1872, respectively.

Places two to four in the overseas pool belong to her compatriots Wu Suqin (1898 including the highest block, 682), Chan Dongdong (1959) and Zhang Yu Hong (1741).

Gunnalada Aree and Yanee Saebae, both Thailand, lead the local and the local & overseas pool with 1872 and 1634, respectively.

Aree combined 3-game series of 663, 605 and 604 to lead the women's local pool with 1872 pinfall total and an average of 208.00.

Sabeena Athica, India, is the best of two foreigners to lead the overseas pool with 1693 (188.11). Rachell Lapig, Philippines, is the other with 1570 (174.44). Yanee Saebae, Thailand, tops the local and overseas pool (players not among the top 8 in the local and the overseas pool, resp.) with 1634 pinfall total (181.56.

On the men's side, Al Mas had sets of 675, 674 and 666 to lead the overseas pool with 2015 (223.89). Andrew Frawley, Australia, moved into second place with 1991 (221.22).
