Swedish girls and English boys start 22nd European Youth Championships with victory in Doubles

Isabell Hultin and Elin Adolfsson, Sweden (pictured left) and Matthew Blythe and Steven Miller (right), England, started the 22nd European Youth Championships with victory in girls and boys Doubles on Tuesday afternoon at Baltiska Bowlinghallen in Malmo, Sweden.

The top seeded Swedish girls defeated Israel's Mor Dayan and Liat Vizenfeld, seeded 3rd, in the title match, 474-400, after defeating No. 4 qualifiers, Daria Pająk and Magda Stępien, Poland in the semifinals, 462-376.

The Israelis spoiled an all-Swedish title match by defeating No. 2 seed Sandra Andersson and Joline Persson Planefors, 409-372.

The English boys, the No. 2 seeds, secured the title with a 462-434 win over 4th seeded Marcel Obst and Steven Wiersema from Germany. The German's upset top seeded Anders Lousdal and Mik Stampe from Denmark in the semis, 406-404. The Danes, who led the tournament with record 2671 six-game total and an average of 222.58, had to settle for the bronze medal.

Blythe/Miller eliminated No. 3 qualifiers Kim Bolleby/Dennis Vrabac, Sweden, in the other semifinal match, 438-403.
