Chan Shuk Han, John Nolen win Hong Kong International Open from top seed

2008HKGOpenChanShukHan.jpg200910PBAJohnNolen.jpgTop seeded Chan Shuk Han (pictured left), Hong Kong, and USBC Masters champion John Nolen (right), United States, made quick work of their opponents to win the women's and men's 35th Hong Kong International Open Masters title Saturday at Hong Kong Bowling City in Hong Kong, China.

The women's title match was an all-Hog Kong affair, as third seeded Vanessa Fung survived a 3-player shoot-out in the semifinal against #2 Sharon Limansantoso, Indonesia, and #5 Geraldine Ng, Singapore , 197-194-182, to bowl Shuk Han fort he title.

Shuk Han defeated her team mate, 224-178 to win the title and 25.000 Hong Kong Dollars (approx. USD 3,250). Fung received 12.000 for second.

In the opening match, Ng ousted #4 Putty Armein, Indonesia, and #6 Chien Hsiu Lan, Chinese Taipei, 215-167-199.

In the men's division, Nolen and fellow PBAer Lonnie Waliczek, United States, finished the 16-game preliminaries in first and second place. In the opening match of the six-player stepladder finals, #6 Yannaphon Larpapharat, Thailand, eliminated #4 Michael Tsang, Hong Kong, and #5 Wicky Yeung, Hong Kong, 220-214-153.

Yannaphon went on to defeat #3 Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, and Waliczek, 245-192-226 to advance to the title match. Nolen made quick work of the Thai and cruised to the title, 233-197. He earned 50.000 for the win, approx. USD 6,450. Yannaphon was consoled with 22.000 for second place.

The top 16 Asian men and top 16 Asian women also qualify for the sixth event of the Asian Bowling Federation Tour which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 4 also at Hong Kong Bowling City.
