Brunswick to conduct a series of seminars all over Europe in November
11/04/09
The biggest area of confusion in the modern game of bowling is ball selection and matching up to different lane conditions. Brunswick has recognized this and put together a series of seminars held all over Europe this month to address this knowledge area.
"It is a unique opportunity to get a ball dynamics expert and a lane pattern expert in the same room running a seminar," said Brunswick staffer Zara Giles (nee Glover), a multiple World and European champion. "Bowlers and coaches alike will learn a great deal by attending one of the seminars as in the modern game reading lanes and matching up seems to be the biggest area where people need educating.

Seminars combine lane maintenance and ball dynamics

"Bowlers and coaches alike will learn a great deal by attending one of the seminars as in the modern game reading lanes and matching up seems to be the biggest area where people need educating.
In the past the industry has provided information either on lane maintenance or ball dynamics. The two aspects of bowling are directly related but have not been combined in a seminar format before.
By combining the two topics into one seminar Brunswick can paint a complete picture of the different aspects of ball motion and why they occur. The seminars will cover the theory of why and how lanes are maintained and the effect this has on ball motion.
It will increase awareness to all the variables that effect bowling ball motion and extend to why and how bowlers select equipment and adjust to lane conditions to maximize their performance.
These seminars will increase understanding of selecting the best ball, surface and layout to tackle different lane conditions. Both coaches and bowlers will learn better how to select the best part of the lane and how to recognize changes in ball motion and make the right adjustments to maximize scoring potential.
The four elements that effect ball motion - Lane surface, Ball, Bowler and Oil Patterns will be covered in depth and also followed up with over 20 other variables that can affect ball motion.
PAT MITCHELL (Lane maintenance expert)
A technician with 26 years of bowling industry experience. Pat has managed maintenance in a 72 lane center, resurfaced bowling lanes, worked as part of an installation team then was hired by Brunswick in 2000. Pat is now aftermarket support for the A22 and manages maintenance support for the PBA and USBC. Pat started bowling aged 4.
JOHN PROKOPEC (ball dynamics expert)
A Marketing Graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, John has worked in the bowling industry all of his life, in both Pro Shops and Bowling Centers. Within Brunswick John has held many positions in research and development of bowling balls and has recently been promoted to International Marketing Manager for both Aftermarket and Consumer Products. John has bowled for the past 33 years.
