Justin Lim, Cherie Tan set the early pace in 43rd Singapore International Open

Tim Mack moves into second place in the men's Overseas Pool

2010SINOpenJustinLim.jpg2009DHCCherieTan.jpgThe 43rd Singapore International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships is underway at Orchid Bowl at Orchid Country Club in Singapore. The tournament, which will be held from May 25 through June 5, 2010, offers 25,000 Singapore Dollars to the men's winner of the men's Open Masters Division and 5,000 for the women's champion.

Local bowlers Justin Lim (pictured left) and Cherie Tan (right) set the pace in the qualifying as of Sunday, May 30, with 950 and 937 4-game total, respectively.

Trailing Lim by three pins to sit in second place in the Local Pool is 2-time World champion and 3-time Asian Games gold medalist, Remy Ong (below right) with 927. Mark Wong is another 12 pins behind in third place with 915.

The former world champion and international standout posted (226,00 ave.) to move into second place in the Overseas Pool. Mack is currently sandwiched between Dilbir Singh (930) and Dhruv Sarad (868), both India.

On the women's side, Cherie Tan averaged 234.25 to lead the Local Pool with 937. She is followed by Daphne Tan in second place with 922 and Amanda Ng in third with 891.

A total of 42 men (39 qualifiers plus the top 3 from the desperado squad) and 30 women including defending champions Shaker Al-Hassan, UAE, and Sharon Koh, Malaysia, will advance to the Masters Finals.

Men and women will bowl two 8-game blocks to determine the top 4 players, who will advance to the stepladder finals. The winner of the opening match between the 2md, 3rd and 4th seed earns the right to bowl the No. 1 seed for the title. The No. 1 seed must be defeated twice to win the title.

In addition to the prize money, S$5,000 will be shared equally amongst the bowlers who roll a perfect game in qualifying, in the Masters finals and in the stepladder finals.
