Defending men's champion Kalika, 23,  who also won the title in 2004 and 2006, won his fourth career national championship with a 234-200 win over Yuriy Grinnik in the 10th and final event of the championships. Kovalova flew past Natalia Malysheva, 258-202, to claim the women's title.

Kalika survived a strong challenge by Andrey Andreev in the semifinal with the two-game total deciding the winner. Both players were deadlocked at 279 after the first game and Kalika advanced to the final with a 266-233 win in game two for a 545-512 victory. In the other semifinal, Grinnik topped Evgeny Petrovskiy in a close match by mere three pins, 450-447.

Kalika had the men's high game (289) and established a new Ukrainian record for 6 games with 1559 or an average of 259.83.

In her semifinal match against Natalia Scherbinina, 15-year-old Kovalova took a 40-pin lead after a 225-185 in game #1 before she made history by rolling a 300 game in game #2. Kovalova became the first Ukrainian woman who accomplished the feat in an official competition to cruise to a huge 525-394 win.

In the other semifinal, Malysheva used a 279 to come back from a 10-pin deficit to beat Ulyana Grosu, 484-375.

The 2009-2010 Ukrainian Sport Bowling Championship was contested over ten months with one tournament per month. Champion and medal winners were determined based on the best 8 results in the 10 tournaments.

With the victory in the final event, Kalika and Kovalova earned enough points to become the overall champions en route to earn the right to represent the Ukraine in the 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Oct. 15-24, 2010 at Bowling 300 Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia.
