Malaysia takes comfortable lead in Men Trios after Block One on medium oil

    UAE and Kuwait trios distant second and third

    2011AsCM3AaronKongSyafiqRidhwanMuhdNurAiman.jpgAaron Kong, Muhd Nur Aiman and Syafiq Ridhwan (l-r) of Malaysia outaveraged their nearest competitor by almost ten pins to take a comfortable 84-pin lead in Men Trios at the 21st Asian Championships after the first block on medium oil Wednesday afternoon at Khalifa Bowling Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

    The Malaysians came out of the gates quickly with 703 and added 712, the highest game of the event thus far, before they closed things out with 680 for 2095 pinfall total and an average of 232.78. Ridhwan led the team with the field-best 727 series (242.33) and was followed by Kong with 698 and Aiman with 670.

    Sayed Ibrahim, Mahmood Al-Attar and Mohd.Al-Qubaisi, representing the host country, were 84 pins behind in second place with 2011. Kuwait's Basil Al-Anzi, Mohammed Al-Rageebah and Khaled Al-Dubyyan were another 46 pins behind the UAE in third place with 1965.

    Korea's Singles champion Cho Young-Seon and Doubles champion Choi Yong-Kyu teamed with Jang Dong-Chul to take fourth place with 1934. Fahad Al-Emadi, Mansour Al-Awami and Mubarak Al-Muraikhi, Qatar, were mere one pin behind the Koreans in fifth place with 1933.

    Australia's Christian Purdue, Dion Alexander and Stephen Cowland were the sixth and last trio which surpassed the 1900-mark. The Aussies totaled 1901 including a 269 game by Cowland, the highest men's game of the day.

    2009WGWuSiuHong.jpg2010ABFT05YousifFalah.jpgHong Kong's Wu Siu Hong (pictured left) widened his lead in All Events to 81 pins after 15 out of 24 games (combined results of Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team) thanks to a 678 series today. Siu Hong leads with 3487 pinfall total and an average of 232.47. Yousif Falah (right), Bahrain, remained in second place with 3406 and Korea's Cho Young-Seon maintained third place with 3382.

    The 107 men from 20 countries - Australia, Bahrain, Chinese, Taipei, Egypt, Hong, Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand and UAE - will return on Thursday afternoon for the second 3-game block of the Trios competition on short oil.
