Diandra Asbaty, United States, posted the field-best 1334 six-game series, an average of 222.33, Sunday morning to lead the top 16 players into match play in the finals of the 90.000 € Brunswick Euro Challenge. Asbaty added 48 pins handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour, to finish the first round of the finals with 1382 pinfall, 88 pins ahead of her nearest competitor.

Trailing the Israelis by 81 pins to sit in second place was Germany with Shirley Lazar, Cynthia Kleyda and Melanie Birlinger (1949). Third place belongs to the host country, Finland. with 1917.
Consistency was the key for the Swedish success in the Boys Doubles in the 21st European Youth Championships at Tali Bowl in Helsinki, Finland. Joachim Karlsson and Kristoffer Hagelberg had six-game series of 1320 (220.00) and 1334 (222.33) en route to win the gold medal with 2654 pinfall total and an average of 221.17. The Swedes had 3-game team series of 1337 and 1317 to beat Danes Kasper Walther and Thomas Larsen by 9 pins and Juuso Huhtiranta and Riku-Petteri Kivelä by 14 pins.

Martin Larsen (l.) from Sweden was the sole player in the qualifying of the Brunswick Euro Challenge, who reached the 1400-plateau en route to win the qualifying at Plaza Bowling in Saint Maximin, France, with 1448 six-game total and an average of 241.33. Jason Belmonte (right), the two-hander from Australia, led until squad #12 and finished in second place with 1398. A total of 64 players qualified for the finals starting on Sunday at 9 a.m. The BEC drew 405 players - 94 women and 311 men - from 36 countries.

2003-04 PBA Player of the Year Mika Koivuniemi (l.), Finland, and former PBA exempt bowler Tore Torgersen, Norway, led the 21st and penultimate squad in the Brunswick Euro Challenge in Saint Maximin, France en route to jump into the top 10 of the 405-player field from 36 countries. The "Big Finn" had six games between 279 and 201 to move into sixth place with 1378 pinfall total and an average of 229.67. Torgersen (r.) closed out his series with 269 and 246 to finish 15 pins behind Koivuniemi with 1363, good for seventh place.
Jemma Smith (pictured), England, waited until the squad 20 out of 22 to start qualifying in the Brunswick Euro Challenge, the fifth stop of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "major". The daughter of two-time World Cup champion Pauline Smith-Buck had games of 235, 198, 228, 218, 191 and 202 for 1272 scratch, 212 average, and 1320 including 48 pins women's handicap, the standard on the EBT, to propel herself into 15th place among 398 players from 36 countries. Qualifying continues today with squads #21-22 and ends with the one-game Desperado Squad around Midnight.
The final qualifying day of the Brunswick Euro Challenge started with a 20-minute power failure but when everything was back to normal in Plaza Bowling in Saint Maximin, France, two players should have secured their spots for the finals on Sunday. Kévin Seve (l.), France led the squad with 1282, an average of 213.67 for six games, to grab the 30th place in the overall qualifying standings . Andrew Frawley (r.), Australia, was mere two pins behind to sit in 33rd position with 1280.

For the third consecutive squad today the squad leader moved into fourth place in the overall qualifying standings of the Brunswick Euro Challenge. 4-time PBA champion Sean Rash (l.) followed in the foot prints of Missy Bellinder, both United States, and Pasi Uotila, Finland after leading squad #16 with 1383 six-game total and an average of 230.50. Former World Ranking Masters champion and 3-time European ranking champion Britt Brøndsted (r.), Denmark, missed the top 16 by two pins to land in 17th place with 1313.

Pasi Uotila (l.), Finland, led the 15th qualifying squad en route to move into fourth place in the overall qualifying standings of the Brunswick Euro Challenge in Saint Maximin, France. The long-time Finnish international used high games of 268 and 259 for 1382 pinfall total, an average of 230.33 for six games.His compatriot, 8-time PBA champion Mika Koivuniemi leapfrogged 103 spots from 119th to 16th place behind a 1308 series. 
Missy Bellinder, United States, led the first of five squads on the penultimate qualifying day in the Brunswick Euro Challenge early Friday morning at Plaza Bowling (pictured above) in Saint Maximin, France. Bellinder, the sole women, who owns two PBA regional titles posted a 1300 series scratch including a high game of 256 and added 48 pins handicap, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour. Her 1348 pinfall total propelled her into fourth place in the overall qualifying standings. Martin Larsen, Sweden (1448), Australia's Jason Belmonte (1398) and Mike Fagan, United States, (1390) remained atop the leaderboard.
