Scandinavian boys dominate Doubles preliminaries at European Youth Championships

    Finland, Norway to bowl top seeded Swedish teams in semifinals on Tuesday afternoon

    2012EYCLogo.jpg The 25th European Youth Championships got underway on Monday at Lovvang Bowling Center in Aalborg, Denmark, with the six-game preliminaries of the Boys Doubles competition. Swedes Jesper Svensson/Filip Wilhelmsson and Emil Nilsson/Pontus Andersson earned the No. 1 and No. 2 seed for the playoffs on Tuesday afternoon starting at 5.30 p.m. CET.

    Svensson/Wilhelmsson averaged 215.17 for six games including six team games between 408 and 450 to lead the field of 48 doubles with 2582 pinfall. Wilhelmsson led the way with 1304 and Svensson added 1278.

    Nilsson and Andersson used the highest game (512) and the highest three-series (1412) in the last three games to jump into second place with 2518 en route to avoid a clash with their teammates in the semis.

    Jesse Kallio/Niko Kurppa will meet the Nilsson/Andersson in the semifinals as the Finns took the No. 3 seed with 2505. Mathias Reinertsen/Øyvin Kulseng took the fourth and last place for the playoffs with 2468 or an average of 205.67. The Norwegians will bowl top seeded Svensson/Wilhelmsson in the other semifinal match.

    The 25th European Youth Championships will be held from March 31 through April 9, 2012 at Lovvang Bowling Center in Aalborg, Denmark.

    The EYC 2012 is divided in two divisions - boys and girls. Each team consists of maximum four male and four female players, who must not have reached the age of 19 before August 31st, 2012.

    The players compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Doubles, Teams, Singles, All Events (18 games) and Masters (top 24 in All Events, single-elimination, best-of-three games). Competition starts on Monday, April 2 with the Boys Doubles and ends on Easter Sunday, April 8, with the Boys and Girls Masters match play.
