All federations confirm participation in 2013 Combined World Championships in Las Vegas
12/21/12
The 2013 World Championships is open for 36 men and 36 women teams which have qualified in zone qualifications in Europe, Asia and America during the year 2012.
The World Tenpin Bowling Association has announced in its December newsletter that all invited federations have confirmed their participation in the event which will be held from August 16-31 at Sunset Station's Strike Zone bowling center, a 72-laner in Henderson, Nev., in suburban Las Vegas, United States.
In case there will be late withdrawals substitute teams will be invited.
The World Championship hosting system has undergone substantial change, since the 2009 WTBA Congress authorized the change in the manner in which hosts were chosen.
The 2013 World Championships will be hosted by four partners: the World Tenpin Bowling Association, the United States Bowling Congress, Station Casinos and the City of Henderson.
The host pays a significant fee to the WTBA to host these championships. They expect commitments for certain things in return, including the delegations staying at Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in which the bowling center is located.
"WTBA has committed to fill a substantial portion of the rooms at Sunset during the championships", WTBA President Kevin Dornberger (pictured left) said. "If we do not, then financial penalties may apply to WTBA, and in effect to the federations.
If guests or supporters from non-qualified countries plan to visit the World Championships we recommend you to make room reservations at Sunset Station Casinos (pictured right). We recommend that you make room reservations through WTBA contacts." Click on the image to enlarge it.
When you compare the hotel rates, be aware that as an example the double occupancy (2 people) rate of $112.99 through WTBA includes the hotel resort fee of $15, which includes in-room internet; it includes breakfast for 2, an additional $12; and it includes government taxes of 13%.
Another great advantage is also that when you stay at Sunset where the championships are played, no transports needed.
The supporter registration fee is $200. For that fee, supporters receive transportation between the airport and Sunset; transportation and tickets for the Opening Ceremony and Closing Banquet (not at Sunset); a season pass to the bowling center (worth about $100).
For more information please go to the 2013 WC website or download Bulletin 1 (MS document).
There will be several additional activities in conjunction with the Championships:
The WTBA has agreed with the United Arab Emirates about the dates for 2014 and 2015 World Championships. Tentative dates for the 2014 Men's World Championships are November 18-29, 2014 while the 2015 Women's World Championships are preliminary scheduled for November 17-28, 2015. Both championships will be played at the Khalifa International Bowling Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

There will be several additional activities in conjunction with the Championships:
- WTBA will provide a free clinic to Las Vegas/Henderson area youth bowlers, including help from international coaches and players. This will almost certainly be held on August 16, before the Opening Ceremony.
- WTBA will run a Pro-Am event at Sunset on August 17, hopefully with volunteer bowlers from participating teams - to bowl a three-game block with other participants, and participate in a short autograph/social session.
- WTBA will provide a federation education session the morning of August 31, after the WC has concluded and before the FIQ Congress. There will be no charge.
- WTBA will provide a bowling industry forum on the late afternoon of August 31, after the FIQ Congress.
