Lithuanian Kristijonas Sergejevas shoots near-perfect final game to win 11th Czech Open

    2013CzechOpenKristijonasSergejevas.jpg2013CzechOpenXavierMilet.jpgDown by 48 pins after the first game of the title match in the 11th Czech Open 2013, Lithuanian Kristijonas Sergejevas (pictured left) fired a near-perfect game to defeat Xavier Milet (right) of Belgium, 519-460, to win the title and the 2.500 Euro top prize.

    Milet, who topped Sergejevas in the opening game, 269-221, had to settle for second place worth 1.300 Euro.

    The 11th Czech Open 2013, which was held from June 29 thru July 7 at bowling center Bowland in Olomouc, Czech Republic, drew 220 players, 174 men and 46 women, from 13 countries and offering a total prize fund of 13.140 Euro.

    In five rounds, the field of 84 finalists was trimmed to six players, who advanced to the playoffs with the two-game total determining the winner.

    Milet went on to defeat No. 1 seed Jaroslav Lorenc (right), Czech Republic, in the semifinals, 425-404, while Sergejevas eliminated Farkas-Bucin, 466-374.

    Lorenc, who rolled the first of three perfect games in the qualifying (Raul Beekmann of Estonia in Round 2 and Marcus Svensson in Round 5 had the others), took 800 Euro for third place. Farkas-Bucin was the best woman in fourth place worth 700 Euro. Svensson and Homola pocketed 600 and 500 Euro for fifth and sixth place, respectively.
