14th BBWZ International Youth Tournament is underway at Bowling Almere in the Netherlands

Danish and Dutch bowlers add their names to the leaderboards on Sunday, February 9

The 14th BBWZ International Youth Tournament is currently underway at Bowling Almere, a 24-laner in Almere, Netherland. The event, which is part of the Youth Euro Trophy (YET), has registered more than 230 entries from eight different countries.

With four qualifying squads in the books, Dennis van den Berg, Netherlands and Bauke Jespers of Belgium lead Division 1 with 1487 (212.43) and 1278 (182.57), respectively.

Xander van Mazijk, Netherlands, who is in third place in the Boys Division 1 with 1429, missed a perfect game by one pin after leaving s atone 9 on his last shot.

In Squads 3 and 4 on Sunday, many players were off to a good start, but scores became lower after the third game as the 40 pattern broke down quickly and the players struggled with transition and the necessary adjustments.

Patrick Jannik Sørensen (pictured left) of Denmark posted a 1374 (196.29) on Sunday including games of 189, 217, 170, 180, 243, 187 and 188 to leap into seventh place in Boys Division 1.

His compatriot Kasper Loft Farebaek (right) had games of 178, 235, 165, 184, 178, 234 and 210 to leap into second place in Boys Division 2 with 1384 (197.71). Dutch Erik Holvast continued to lead the division with 1424 (203.43).

On the girls' side, Elvira de Weerdt (left), Netherlands, moved into second place in Division 1 with 1172, while Dutch Denise Blankenzee (right) moved into fifth place in Division 2 with 1202. This division is led by Jolien Thys of Belgium on 1271.

With most of the foreign bowlers scheduled to bowl qualifying next weekend, Dutch youth bowlers are in control of the leaderboard in Divisions 3, 4 and 5 (mixed). Mitchel de Brouwer and Celine Ubert lead Division 3 with 1102 and 1030, resp.

Mats Kerner and Marousha Stam are atop Division 4 with 1064 and 920, resp. Vince van der Loo holds the pole position in the Mixed Division with 868.

Qualifying continues on Friday, February 14, with squads at 9 a.m. & noon and 1 & 4 p.m. CET.

The 14th BBWZ International Youth Tournament runs from February 1-16 at Bowling Almere, a 24-laner in Almere, Netherland. The event is part of the Youth Euro Trophy (YET) and will be contested on a 40-ft. lane conditioning pattern

with 21.56ml volume oil total.

Boys and girls at the age of 21 and under and 18 and under will be split into four average divisions. There is also one mixed division for boys and girls at the age of 12 years and younger.

Boys and girls in Divisions 1 & 2 roll seven games of qualifying. All other divisions feature six games. The following players will advance the semifinals:

Division 1: Top 11 boys and top 5 girls
Division 2: Top 12 boys and top 10 girls
Division 3: Top 9 boys and top 8 girls
Division 4: Top 8 boys and top 3 girls
Mixed Division 1: Top 5

All qualifying pinfall will be carried forward. Divisions 1 & 2 bowlers roll additional four games to cut for the top 6 boys and the top 4 girls (Division 1) and the top 6 boys and the top 6 girls (Division 2) who will determine the champions in the round robin match play.

Division 2 boys and girls will play a five-game round starting at scratch. Players receive 20 bonus for a win and 10 for a tie. Additional bonus will be given for games from 225-249 (5 bonus), 250-274 (10 bonus) and 275+ (15 bonus).

Division 1 boys and girls will be combined into one mixed group to roll nine games of round robin. The same bonus and scoring rules as in Division 2 apply. The player with the highest pinfall total including all bonus pins will be declared the winner.

The players who survived the qualifying in Divisions 3 & 4 and the Mixed Division will determine the champions in a final round over five games. The player with the highest 11-game total including handicap (Mixed Division) will be declared the winner.
