Bowlers of the Israel Bowling Federation pair with Special Olympics athletes in unique Doubles league

2014ISRUnifiedLeagueSigning1.jpg The Israel Bowling Federation has announced that it has signed a new partnership agreement with Special Olympics Israel in November 2013. This partnership will open greater opportunities for the athletes with intellectual disabilities in the sport of the Tenpin Bowling.

The photo shows Daniel Benaim, Chairman of Special Olympics Israel, and Arie Fisher, President of the Israel Bowling Federation, with the signed partnership agreement.

The Special Olympics athletes already took part on the last "Maccabiah Games" as guests of the IBF. The new partnership will lead to joint training sessions between S.O. athletes and IBF "volunteer" bowlers.

2014ISRUnifiedLeague1Warmup.jpg After a few months of preparation, a unique project got underway last on Friday, February 21, at bowling center Petach-Tikva with the first Unified Bowling League. Pictured right are bowlers during the warm-up before starting the competition.

League play features a doubles format - one IBF bowler pairs with a Special Olympics athlete. The league consists of eight rounds to be held at several bowling centers all over Israel.

Each round features three games. Two points will be given for each win (maximum six points). The pair with the higher total pinfall receives another four points. 1 bonus point will be given for each game of 360 and over and 0.5 bonus points for games between 320 and 360.

The Special Olympics athletes also benefit from the program through the weekly training with the IBF "volunteer" bowlers.
