McLaughlin and Penny win 8th Ebonite ALSAA Open

2007 Irish 'Under 19' Champion Eoin McLaughlin and Kirsten Penny, England, won the titles in the men's and women's Open Division at the 8th Ebonite ALSAA Open at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland.

McLaughlin (pictured right) started his 5-game set with a 300-game, the first of three perfectos in this year's event, and added 243, 221, 247 and 289 to hit the magic 1300, an average of 260.00 for five games. He also won the Irish and ALSAA Divisions.
Cian Cloake topped the Junior's Under 18 leaderboard with 1215 (243.00).
McLaughlin pocketed the 1.500 Euro top prize. The prize money was distributed based on highest value/division - one prize per person,

McLaughlin started his 5-game set with a 300-game, the first of three perfectos in this year's event, and added 243, 221, 247 and 289 to hit the magic 1300, an average of 260.00 for five games. He also leads the Irish and ALSAA Divisions. Cian Cloake sits atop the Junior's leaderboard with 1215 (243.00).
Long-time English national team member Penny took the lead in the women's Open Division on Friday, when she rolled games of 242, 279, 247, 262 and 216 for 1246 five-game total and an average of 249.20. Annika Kilander, Sweden, is second with 1231 and Amanda McDermott third with 1132.
McDermott leads the Irish Division, while Sara Kelly and Aimee Kellegher held on to the lead in the ALSAA and Junior Division (under 18) with 996 and 1117, respectively.
The final squad is scheduled for Sunday at 11.00.

Annika Kilander, Sweden, almost caught her in the second squad with 1231 (278, 236, 215, 236, 266) and 246,20.
Previous leader Amanda McDermott slipped to third but continued to lead the Irish Division with 1132 (226.40). Sara Kelly and Aimee Kellegher (right) held on to the lead in the women's ALSAA and Junior Division (under 18). Kelly has 996 (199.20), while Kellegher beat her previous score by 20 pins on Friday evening, now 1117 (223.40).
Another 300 was bowled by David Kelly, the third in the event. Kelly finished his set with 1210, good for 7th place in the ALSAA Division and 9th in the Irish Division.

Andrew Frawley from Australia had games of 254, 211, 235, 247 and 279 to become the first foreigner to crack the top ten in the Open Division at the Ebonite ALSAA Open in Ireland. Frawley's 1226 five-game total, and an average of 245.20 was good enough for 8th place.
Eoin McLaughlin continued to lead with tournament record of 1300, an average of 260.00, including the event's first perfecto. Paul Stott bowled this year's second 300 but failed to improve his high set (1250, 6th place) with 1211 pinfall total.
Two-time women's Open champion Irene Kragh-Eckell from Norway shot a sub-par 913 series in her first attempt and briefly made the top ten with a 913 in 10th place, but Aimee Kellegher, moving into second with a 1097 and Yvonne McCormack with a 942 pushed her off.
Irish national team member Amanda McDermott remained atop the leaderboard with 1132 and an average of 226.40.

McLaughlin, who set a new tournament record last week, leads in three out four categories in the men's division (Open, Irish ands ALSAA) with 1300 five-game total, an average of 260.00, including the tournament's sole 300-game thus far.
Cian Cloake had games of 223, 279, 221, 247 and 245 on Saturday to overtake the lead in the men's Junior Division with 1215, a 243.00 average.
McDermott remained atop the leaderboard in the women's Open and Irish Divisions with 1132 and an average of 226.40. Sara Kelly leads the ALSAA and Juniors Divisions with 996 and 199.20.
The next squad will follow on Sunday, January 21st.

Local bowler Eoin McLaughlin broke the event record of 1298, set in 2003 by Alan Gibbons, en route to power his way into the lead in the men's Open Division in the 8th Ebonite ALSAA Open at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland.
McLaughlin started his 5-game set with the tournament's first perfecto this year (he also had the last 300 in 2006) before rolling games of 243, 221 and 247. He finished the day with a 289 to finally hit the magic 1300, an average of 260.00. McLaughlin topped previous leader Paul Chandler by 15 pins.
In the Ladies section, Kerena Dykes move into second place in the Open Division with 1078, while Anita Watts is third with 1019. Amanda McDermott (right) remained atop the leaderboard with 1132, a 226.40 average.

Penny and Kilander move to the top in women's Open Division at ALSAA Bowl
After two Squads on Friday, the No. 1 and No. 2 spots have changed in the women's Open Division. Kirsten Penny (pictured left), England, a former World and European champion and the 2003 ALSAA Open winner moved into first place with 1246 five-game total (242, 279, 247, 262, 216) and an average of 249.20. Annika Kilander, Sweden, almost caught her in the second squad with 1231 (278, 236, 215, 236, 266) and 246,20. Previous leader Amanda McDermott slipped to third but continued to lead the Irish Division with 1132 (226.40). Sara Kelly and Aimee Kellegher (right) held on to the lead in the women's ALSAA and Junior Division (under 18). Kelly has 996 (199.20), while Kellegher beat her previous score by 20 pins on Friday evening, now 1117 (223.40). Another 300 was bowled by David Kelly, the third in the event. Kelly finished his set with 1210, good for 7th place in the ALSAA Division and 9th in the Irish Division.
Eoin McLaughlin (pictured left), who rolled the first perfecto this year, set a new tournament record to lead in three out four categories in the men's division (Open, Irish ands ALSAA) with 1300 five-game total, an average of 260.00. Cian Cloake sits atop the Junior's leaderboard with 1215 (243.00).

Aussie Frawley becomes first foreigner to crack the top 10 in Ebonite ALSAA Open
Andrew Frawley from Australia had games of 254, 211, 235, 247 and 279 to become the first foreigner to crack the top ten in the Open Division at the Ebonite ALSAA Open in Ireland. Frawley's 1226 five-game total, and an average of 245.20 was good enough for 8th place. Eoin McLaughlin continued to lead with tournament record of 1300, an average of 260.00, including the event's first perfecto. Paul Stott bowled this year's second 300 but failed to improve his high set (1250, 6th place) with 1211 pinfall total. Two-time women's Open champion Irene Kragh-Eckell from Norway shot a sub-par 913 series in her first attempt and briefly made the top ten with a 913 in 10th place, but Aimee Kellegher, moving into second with a 1097 and Yvonne McCormack with a 942 pushed her off.
Irish national team member Amanda McDermott remained atop the leaderboard with 1132 and an average of 226.40. The 8th Ebonite ALSAA Open at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin continues with four more squads on Thursday at 14:15, 16:30, 19:00 and 21:00.

Cian Cloake had games of 223, 279, 221, 247 and 245 on Saturday to overtake the lead in the men's Junior Division with 1215, a 243.00 average.
McDermott remained atop the leaderboard in the women's Open and Irish Divisions with 1132 and an average of 226.40. Sara Kelly leads the ALSAA and Juniors Divisions with 996 and 199.20.

Local bowler Eoin McLaughlin broke the event record of 1298, set in 2003 by Alan Gibbons, en route to power his way into the lead in the men's Open Division in the 8th Ebonite ALSAA Open at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland. McLaughlin started his 5-game set with the tournament's first perfecto this year (he also had the last 300 in 2006) before rolling games of 243, 221 and 247. He finished the day with a 289 to finally hit the magic 1300, an average of 260.00. McLaughlin topped previous leader Paul Chandler by 15 pins.

Local bowler Paul Chandler (left) fired games of 265, 268, 279, 224 and 249 to overtake the lead in the men's Open Division in the 8th Ebonite ALSAA Open at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland, with 1285 five-game total and an average of 257.00. 2003 winner Alan Gibbons was close behind with 1270 including high games of 283 and 279. Gibbons' event record from 2003 (1298) remained unchallenged. Amanda McDermott (right) continued to lead the women's Open division with 1132, a 226.40 average.

McLoughlin had games of 223, 247, 279, 226 and 255 for 1230 five-game total and an average of 246,00 to lead the men's Open and Irish Divisions. Local bowler Eoin McLaughlin is second with 1227 (245,40) to lead the ALSAA Division. Greg Gardner tops the Junior Division with 1163 (232,60).
On the women's side, Amanda McDermott, Darragh's girl friend, rolled games of 246, 189, 278, 236 and 183 for 1132 pinfall total, an average of 226,40, to hold a dominating 120-pin lead in the Open and Irish Divisions. Sara Kelly leads the ALSAA and Junior Divisions with 996 (199,20).
