Germany targets for gold and silver in Girls Doubles at 20th European Youth Championships

Two duos from Germany set the pace after two of three squads in the Girls Doubles, the opening event of the 20th European Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.

L-R Melanie Birlinger and Tina Hulsch of Germany challenged their team mates, Squad 1 leaders Janin Ribguth and Cosima Fitz and finished their six-game block with a 447 game but fell 12 pins short of the lead, 2509 to 2497.

Hulsch led the squad with 1294, a 215.67 average, the second-highest series of all players thus far, and Birlinger added 1203. Ribguth leads the field with new EYC record of 1443 (240.50).

Swedes Viktoria Johansson and Rebecka Larsen (l-R) needed a 384 final game to overtake Lisanne Breeschoten and Carmen Haandrikman, Netherlands, by one pin and to move into third place overall but a 332 score ended the dream.

Before the final squad the Dutch girls sit in third place with 2474 (206.17) and the Swedes in fourth at 2423 (201.92).
