Ingunn Øien and Mads Sandbækken won the individual women's and men's titles of the Norwegian National Championships held at Bowling 1 in Heimdal, a 24-lane Brunswick equipped center 15 km south of Trondheim.
Both players led the field of 59 women and 193 men throughout the entire tournament to earn the No. 1 seed for the three-player stepladder finals. In the opening match of the women's finals, Defending women's champion Heidi Thorstensen struck out in the 10th frame to seal a 235-226 victory over Cathrine Bjercke, for the right to bowl her doubles partner in the final.

The teammates were tied at 118 in the middle of the match when Thorstensen fell behind by three pins due to a six-count on her first ball in the seventh frame, the only pinfall lower than nine in the whole title match. This factor proved decisive as both players finished with strike, 9-spare, strike and 9-spare and Øien maintained her lead to win the title, 217-214.
The men's title match featured the top 2 Norwegian players. Petter Hansen edged out Martin Olsen and Norwegian veteran Arne Svein Strøm for the third and final spot averaging 219.59 for 29 games. Strøm and Stian Olsen (l-r, Briskebyen BK, won the titles in men's Doubles.
Hansen survived a low-scoring encounter against Jan Egil Hansen in the semi-final, 186-182, to earn the right to bowl tournament leader and defending champion Mads Sandbækken for the title.
The experienced player, Hansen (left), topped the rising star, 2006 World Youth Masters champion Sandbækken (right), already a member of the Norwegian national team, thanks to a four-bagger in the middle of the game, 227-209.
According to the rules, the No. seed must be defeated twice to win the title and Sandbækken got a second chance. The youngster took the lead with a turkey in frames 5-7 and never looked back. Two open frames in the 8th and 9th sealed Hansen's fate and Sandbækken took his second consecutive national championship with a 224-183 victory in the decider.
