ETBF Congress in Vienna

The ordinary Congress of the European Tenpin Bowling Federation was held in conjunction with the Men's European Championships in Vienna, Austria, and took place at the Ibis Hotel Mariahilf on July the 7th. Major decisions made by the Congress include the reduction from six to four players per gender in the European Youth Championships, the termination of the European Gold Cup, the permission for PBA members to compete in European Championships, the limitation of ball checks at championships, and the reduction of the ETBF presidium members to six.
As a consequence of the permanently increasing number of participants in the EYC, the Congress has decided:
Each federation may have a maximum of 4 girls and 4 boys (previously 6 girls and 6 boys).
Competition will include Singles, Doubles, Team of Four, All Event and Masters. Singles and Team of Four are new events, which will replace the Trios and the Team of Five events.
Like in the adult European Championships the medals in Singles, Doubles and Team will be decided in one-game semi-finals and a one-game title match. The All Events standings will be decided based on total pinfall Singles, Doubles and Team. The Masters final will be best-of-three games single-elimination match play.
The Congress decided not to introduce dual lane conditions for the youth.
The changes will be in effect as of the EYC 2009 in Sweden, while the EYC 2008 in Helsinki will be the last youth championships played according to the present rules.
After years of discussions and problems with the handicap calculation because of different registration systems in the ETBF member federations and increasing problems to find a host for the event, the Congress decided to terminate the European Gold Cup as of 2008.
This means that the recently conducted Gold Cup in Cyprus was the last of its kind.
It was decided to open the European Championships for all individual members of our federations, no matter if they are members of other clubs, tours or organizations in addition to a federation membership.
This means that PBA members, previous as well as present, can participate in European Championships from 2008 on, under the premise that they are selected by their federations to their respectively national teams.
Starting with the this year's European Champions Cup in Luxembourg the time expensive check of all bowling balls of all participating players will not be continued.
All bowling balls that will be used in the competition must be registered. Only the bowling balls of those players who have reached a semi-final or the fourth round of the Masters final will be inspected completely. If an "illegal" bowling ball will be found in the inspection, the player will be disqualified and all scores declared null and void.
Shortly after the 2005 Congress one of the presidium members has resigned six instead of seven persons have carried out the work during the past two years.
It was therefore proposed by the Presidium to permanently reduce the number of Presidium members to 6, which was accepted by the Congress to be effective immediately.
Kim Thorsgaard Jensen was re-elected as Vice President for a 4 years term.
Roni Ashkenazi was re-elected as Presidium member, also for a 4 years term.
Both were elected by acclamation.
