Qualifying concludes at USBC Junior Gold Championships

    2007JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpg Tony Sambueno of Aiea, Hawaii, and Jenny Brown of Deland, Fla., emerged as the high qualifiers after 18 games at the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships late Thursday night.

    Sambueno shot 3,852, an average of 214 per game, while Brown, a current Junior Team USA member, shot 3,762, an average of 209.

    The top 96 boys and 48 girls advanced from qualifying to the semifinals, which will consist of a six-game block at AMF Airport Lanes on Friday morning. The top 32 boys and 32 girls will advance to the finals and bowl a final six-game block Friday afternoon.

    The top five finishers who are U.S. citizens in the boys and girls divisions will earn automatic spots on Junior Team USA, serving as United States representatives in international competition in 2008. The National Selection Committee will choose six additional Junior Gold competitors, three males and three females, to round out the 2008 team.
