Monsen and Hansen win the titles in Evje Open International

    2007EOAudunHansen.jpg Janne Monsen and Audun Boye Hansen won the women's and men's titles in the 2007 Evje Open International at Evje Bowling in Evje, Norway. Both players entered the five-player stepladder finals as the No. 1 seed, which had to be defeated twice to win the title.

    2007EOJanneMonsen.jpg Hansen (pictured left) topped the son of the bowling center proprietor family Haugen, Jahn Kåre, in a close match, 228-223, to seal the victory en route to walk away with the 30.000 NOK (approx. 3.760 Euro) top prize.

    Monsen (pictured right) lost the first game against Heidi Thorstensen, 190-188, but rebounded with a 204-186 win in the decisive game, to capture the women's title and 15.000 NOK (approx. 1.880 Euro).

    2007EvjeOpenMixedTop3.jpg Qualifying leaders Ingunn Øien and Petter Hansen finished fourth and ninth, respectively, but won the extra Mixed Doubles finals for the top 5 qualifiers against Marie Bengtson and Svein Roger Olsen, 461-389. Heidi Thorstensen and Mads Sandbækken finished third.

    Hansen, who won the qualifying last year with a pair of 300 games and received a motor boat worth 240.000 Norwegian Kronor or 30.000 Euro, had 3-game series of 783, 745 and 744 for 2272 pinfall total and an average of 252.44 for nine games.

    Heidi_Thorstensen_4429.jpg Øien rolled the sole 700-plus series (706) in the women's division and added 673 and 653 to hold a 113-pin lead over Heidi Thorstensen (right) with 2032 (225.78) to 1919.

    Qualifying ends on Saturday afternoon. The top 20 men and the top 10 women advance to the finals. Arnt Christian Dovland is the man to beat to advance with 2009 pinfall total or a 223.22 average.

    In the men's Final Round 1, qualifiers 11-20 will bowl three games from scratch. The top 5 advance to the second round and meet qualifiers 6-10 in another three-game round. The top 5 and qualifiers 1-5 will determine the five players, who will bowl for the title and the 30.000 NOK (approx. 3.760 Euro) top prize in a stepladder final.

    The top 10 women qualifiers will bowl three games from scratch to cut to the top five players, who will bowl for the title and the 15.000 NOK (approx. 1.880 Euro) top prize in a stepladder final.
