Chapman breaks the English record for a sanctioned 3-game series

Martin Chapman didn't just smash the house record at AMF Ilkeston, England, when he threw his final strike last month – he also broke the British record for a sanctioned 3-game series reports Kevin McNeill.
"Martin hit the lanes running by opening with a 299, a wobbly 10-pin at the last ball denying him a seventh 300 perfect game. For most it would have been downhill after that, but Martin went almost all the way again, cracking a rarely seen back-to-back 299s.
"The house record was then under discussion when he fired six more strikes in the third. This time he left a solid 10-pin in frame 7 and needing 247 for the record, Martin did not falter, going off the sheet for a 279."
"Chapman's 877 three-game series, an average of 292.33, may also be the highest recorded series WITHOUT a 300 game," said British Go Tenpin Magazine editor Eric Hayton. "We'll see if anyone claims that record."
As a footnote the following week in the very same league Chapman picked up the 7-10 split.
